The objective of this study was to investigate the adsorption of arsenic (III, V) on iron Hydroxide (III) and composite of hydroxyapatite / Gum Arabic. The physicochemical parameters considered in this study are pH and contact time.
By studying the Fourier, transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). We have adopted a surface complexation model to study the mechanisms involved in the experiment, comparing the three-adsorption isotherms, Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinnin Radushkevich.
The adsorption of arsenic (III, V) was evaluated for the pseudo first order, the pseudo second order and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models. Kinetic parameters, rate constant, equilibrium sorption capacities and related correlation coefficients for each kinetic model were calculated and discussed.
Obtained results show that adsorption is of electrostatic nature for pH ≤ 6, and of chemical character at pH ≥ 7. The results of the experiment show that the adsorption of arsenic (III, V) depends on the initial concentration of arsenic and the contact time.
