Algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations / par Freudenburg, Gene. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 261 p. ; , This book explores the theory and application of locally nilpotent derivations, which is a subject of growing interest and importance not only among those in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, but also in fields such as Lie algebras and differential equations. The author provides a unified treatment of the subject, beginning with 16 First Principles on which the entire theory is based. These are used to establish classical results, such as Rentschler’s Theorem for the plane, right up to the most recent results, such as Makar-Limanov’s Theorem for locally nilpotent derivations of polynomial rings. Topics of special interest include: progress in the dimension three case, finiteness questions (Hilbert’s 14 th Problem), algorithms, the Makar-Limanov invariant, and connections to the Cancellation Problem and the Embedding Problem. The reader will also find a wealth of pertinent examples and open problems and an up-to-date resource for research. 24 cm. Nilpotent lie algebras / par Goze,, M. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1996 . 352 p. ; , This volume is devoted to the theory of nilpotent Lie algebras and their applications. Nilpotent Lie algebras have played an important role over the last years both in the domain of algebra, considering its role in the classification problems of Lie algebras, and in the domain of differential geometry. Among the topics discussed here are the following: cohomology theory of Lie algebras, deformations and contractions, the algebraic variety of the laws of Lie algebras, the variety of nilpotent laws, and characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras in nilmanifolds. Audience: This book is intended for graduate students specialising in algebra, differential geometry and in theoretical physics and for researchers in mathematics and in theoretical physics. 25 cm. Splitting deformations of degenerations of complex curves : towards the classification of atoms of degenerations, iii / par Takamura, Shigeru. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 594 p. ; , The author develops a deformation theory for degenerations of complex curves; specifically, he treats deformations which induce splittings of the singular fiber of a degeneration. He constructs a deformation of the degeneration in such a way that a subdivisor is "barked" (peeled) off from the singular fiber. These "barking deformations" are related to deformations of surface singularities (in particular, cyclic quotient singularities) as well as the mapping class groups of Riemann surfaces (complex curves) via monodromies. Important applications, such as the classification of atomic degenerations, are also explained. 24 cm.
