Hadamard Expansions and Hyperasymptotic Evaluation : An Extension of the Method of Steepest Descents par Paris, R. B. Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . viii, 243 pages , "The author describes the recently developed theory of Hadamard expansions applied to the high-precision (hyperasymptotic) evaluation of Laplace and Laplace-type integrals. This brand new method builds on the well-known asymptotic method of steepest descents, of which the opening chapter gives a detailed account illustrated by a series of examples of increasing complexity. A discussion of uniformity problems associated with various coalescence phenomena, the Stokes phenomenon and hyperasymptotics of Laplace-type integrals follows. The remaining chapters deal with the Hadamard expansion of Laplace integrals, with and without saddle points. Problems of different types of saddle coalescence are also discussed. The text is illustrated with many numerical examples, which help the reader to understand the level of accuracy achievable. The author also considers applications to some important special functions. This book is ideal for graduate students and researchers working in asymptotics"-- 24 cm. Date : 2011 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Higher-dimensional geometry over finite fields par Tschinkel, Y. Publication : [S.l.] IOS Press 2008 . 360 p. , Number systems based on a finite collection of symbols, such as the 0s and 1s of computer circuitry, are ubiquitous in the modern age. Finite fields are the most important such number systems, playing a vital role in military and civilian communications through coding theory and cryptography. These disciplines have evolved over recent decades, and where once the focus was on algebraic curves over finite fields, recent developments have revealed the increasing importance of higher-dimensional algebraic varieties over finite fields. The papers included in this publication introduce the reader to recent developments in algebraic geometry over finite fields with particular attention to applications of geometric techniques to the study of rational points on varieties over finite fields of dimension of at least 2. IOS Press is an international science, technical and medical publisher of high-quality books for academics, scientists, and professionals in all fields. Some of the areas we publish in: -Biomedicine -Oncology -Artificial intelligence -Databases and information systems -Maritime engineering -Nanotechnology -Geoengineering -All aspects of physics -E-governance -E-commerce -The knowledge economy -Urban studies -Arms control -Understanding and responding to terrorism -Medical informatics -Computer Sciences. 25 cm. Injective modules par Sharpe, D. W. Publication : Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1972 . xii, 191 pages , "In the preface of this book, the authors express the view that 'a good working knowledge of injective modules is a sound investment for module theorists'. The existing literature on the subject has tended to deal with the applications of injective modules to ring theory. The aim of this tract is to demonstrate some of the applications of injective modules to commutative algebra. A number of well-known concepts and results which so far have been applicable principally to commutative rings are generalized to a non-commutative context. There are exercises and brief notes appended to each chapter to illustrate and extend the scope of the treatment in the main text. Together with the short bibliography the notes form a guide to sources of reading for students and researchers who wish to delve more exhaustively into the theory of injective modules. The tract is intended primarily for those who have some knowledge of the rudiments of commutative algebra, although these are recalled at the outset." -- Book cover | "Digitally printed version 2008." 23 cm. Lie algebras : theory and algorithms / par De Graaf,, Willem A. Publication : . 1 online resource (xii, 393 pages) , The aim of the present work is two-fold. Firstly it aims at a giving an account of many existing algorithms for calculating with finite-dimensional Lie algebras. Secondly, the book provides an introduction into the theory of finite-dimensional Lie algebras. These two subject areas are intimately related. First of all, the algorithmic perspective often invites a different approach to the theoretical material than the one taken in various other monographs (e.g., [42], [48], [77], [86]). Indeed, on various occasions the knowledge of certain algorithms allows us to obtain a straightforward proof of theoretical results (we mention the proof of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem and the proof of Iwasawa's theorem as examples). Also proofs that contain algorithmic constructions are explicitly formulated as algorithms (an example is the isomorphism theorem for semisimple Lie algebras that constructs an isomorphism in case it exists). Secondly, the algorithms can be used to arrive at a better understanding of the theory. Performing the algorithms in concrete examples, calculating with the concepts involved, really brings the theory of life. Linear algebra : concepts and methods par Anthony, Martin. Publication : Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2012 . xiv, 516 pages , "Any student studying linear algebra will welcome this textbook, which provides a thorough, yet concise, treatment of key topics in university linear algebra courses. Blending practice and theory, the book enables students to practice and master the standard methods as well as understand how they actually work. At every stage the authors take care to ensure that the discussion is no more complicated or abstract than it needs to be, and focuses only on the fundamental topics. Hundreds of examples and exercises, including solutions, give students plenty of hands-on practice End-of-chapter sections summarise material to help students consolidate their learning Ideal as a course text and for self-study Instructors can use the many examples and exercises to supplement their own assignments Both authors have extensive experience of undergraduate teaching and of preparation of distance learning materials"-- 25 cm Date : 2012 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
