Advances in polymer derived ceramics and composites : ceramic transactions par Colombo, Paolo. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-American Ceramic Society 2010 . 150 p. , This book collects some of papers presented at the very successful Symposium "Polymer Derived Ceramics and Composites" in the framework of the 8th Pacific Rim Conference on Ceramic and Glass Technology. There, over 70 researchers from around the world discussed their latest innovations over four full days. It covers all the main aspects of interdisciplinary research and development in the field of Polymer-Derived-Ceramics, from the precursor synthesis and characteristics to the polymer-to-ceramic conversion, from processing and shaping of preceramic polymers into ceramic components to their microstructure at the nano- and micro-scale, from their properties to their most relevant applications in different fields. 24 cm. Advances in polymer nanocomposite technology   Publication : [S.l.] Nova Science Pub Inc 2010 . 445 p. , Polymer nanocomposites have revolutionised the research effort in the field of composites as they lead to the achievement of synergistic effects from the organic and inorganic components of the system and have led to the expansion of the spectrum of application of the commodity polymers to more advanced high end applications. Although a number of successful systems could be achieved, the inorganic filler still could not be optimally dispersed on nanometer scale in non polar polymers. Also, the thermal degradation of the surface modification of the inorganic component disturbs the organic inorganic phase compatibility and hence the resulting composite properties. In recent years, many new techniques have been employed to overcome these problems which include more advanced modification protocols of the inorganic filler, development of more thermally stable surface modification and altogether new synthesis technologies for polyolefin nanocomposites. There has also been a constant need to compare the composite properties with the property models and hence to be able to predict the properties of the similar systems in advance. However, until now, the conventional models developed for conventional micro composites were used, which in no way maps the nanocomposite systems. The recently developed statistical as well as finite element methods focusing the real nanocomposite morphologies have been more helpful for this purpose. Though a tremendous research focus lies on these polymer systems, there is also a need to give some attention to more environmentally friendly nanocomposite systems and to develop methods to achieve proper recycling. 26 cm. Composite materials : a vision for the future   Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2011 . 272 p. , Composite Materials presents recent developments and state-of-the-art achievements in the science and technology of composites. It identifies and discusses key and emerging issues for future progress in the multidisciplinary field of composites. By bringing together leading experts and promising innovators from research institutions and academia, Composite Materials highlights unresolved issues and identifies opportunities for long-term research needs to provide the reader with a vision for the future in various fields of application of composite materials. A few of the many future directions highlighted in the book are increasingly multifunctional properties; complex, hybrid and nanoreinforced materials; and tailoring in multiple dimensions and directions. The wider areas covered include, but are not limited to, the following: biomedical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, automotive engineering, and naval engineering. Composite Materials is designed to increase the reader’s understanding of the state of the art of composite materials in a variety of industrial sectors and to explore future needs and opportunities. It will therefore be of use to professionals working in the composites industry, research centers, and academia, who already have a graduate-level knowledge of composite materials. 25 cm. Corrosion of ceramic and composite materials, second edition par McCauley, Ronald A. Publication : [S.l.] CRC Press 2004 . 500 p. , Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials, Second Edition is a primary source of guidance for the assessment, interpretation, and inhibition of corrosion phenomena. This book discusses all aspects of corrosion of ceramics, including environments, mechanisms, and materials, and the means to minimize or eliminate corrosion. The author compiles key findings and literature highlights from nearly a decade of scientific advancement, covering emerging techniques in corrosion analysis, characterization, and prediction. He provides at-a-glance coverage of national and international testing procedures for the evaluation of materials stability. The book covers the fundamentals of corrosion by gases, liquids, and solids of several ceramic materials including crystalline materials, glasses, composites, bioceramics, and advanced ceramics. It also discusses property/corrosion relationships and testing. The book collects a generous number of models, figures, and studies illustrating techniques to minimize and reduce the effects of various mechanisms contributing to the corrosion of civil, aerospace, and military structures. The second edition includes a review of all the current literature since publication of the first edition, an additional chapter on composites, and major sections added on bioceramics and weathering of construction materials. Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials, Second Edition explains existing corrosion problems and offers an excellent guide to the design and development of corrosion-resistant structures. 23 cm. Fatigue life prediction of composites and composite structures / edited by Anastasios P. Vassilopoulos   Publication : Boca Raton : | Oxford : CRC Press ; | Woodhead Publishing 2010 . xvi, 552 pages : , The use of composites is growing in structural applications in many industries including aerospace, marine, wind turbine and civil engineering. There are uncertainties about the long term performance of these composites and how they will perform under cyclic fatigue loading. Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures provides a comprehensive review of fatigue damage and fatigue life prediction methodologies for composites and how they can be used in practice. After an introductory chapter, Part one reviews developments in ways of modelling composite fatigue life. The second part of the book reviews developments in predicting composite fatigue life under different conditions including constant and variable amplitude loading as well as multiaxial and cyclic loading. Part three then describes applications such as fatigue life prediction of bonded joints and wind turbine rotor blades as well as health monitoring of composite structures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, this book will be a standard reference for industry and researchers working with composites and those concerned with the long-term performance and fatigue life of composite components and structures. -- Book Description. 24 cm.
