Methods of nonlinear analysis applications to differential equations par Dràbek, Pavel Publication : Basel | Boston | Berlin Birkhäuser 2007 . 568 p. , In this book, the basic methods of nonlinear analysis are emphasized and illustrated in simple examples. Every considered method is motivated, explained in a general form but in the simplest possible abstract framework. Its applications are shown, particularly to boundary value problems for elementary ordinary or partial differential equations. The text is organized in two levels: a self-contained basic and, organized in appendices, an advanced level for the more experienced reader. Exercises are an organic part of the exposition and accompany the reader throughout the book. 24 cm. Postmodern analysis par Jost, Jürgen. Publication : Berlin ; New York Springer 2005 . 371 p , This is an introduction to advanced analysis at the beginning graduate level that blends a modern presentation with concrete examples and applications, in particular in the areas of calculus of variations and partial differential equations. The book does not strive for abstraction for its own sake, but tries rather to impart a working knowledge of the key methods of contemporary analysis, in particular those that are also relevant for application in physics. It provides a streamlined and quick introduction to the fundamental concepts of Banach space and Lebesgue integration theory and the basic notions of the calculus of variations, including Sobolev space theory. The third edition contains new material on further important tool in analysis, namely cover theorems. Useful references for such results and further properties of various classes of weakly differential functions are added. And finally, misprints and minor inconsistencies have been corrected. 24 cm. Representation and control of infinite dimensional systems par Bensoussan, Alain. Publication : [S.l.] Birkhäuser 2007 . 604 p. , This unified, revised second edition of a two-volume set is a self-contained account of quadratic cost optimal control for a large class of infinite-dimensional systems. The original editions received outstanding reviews, yet this new edition is more concise and self-contained. New material has been added to reflect the growth in the field over the past decade. There is a unique chapter on semigroup theory of linear operators that brings together advanced concepts and techniques which are usually treated independently. The material on delay systems and structural operators has not yet appeared anywhere in book form. 24 cm. Date : 2007 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des sciences de l'ingénieur (1),

Semiconcave functions, hamilton-jacobi equations, and optimal control / par Cannarsa,, Piermarco. Publication : [S.l.] : Birkhuser Boston, . 318 p. ; , * A comprehensive and systematic exposition of the properties of semiconcave functions and their various applications, particularly to optimal control problems, by leading experts in the field * A central role in the present work is reserved for the study of singularities * Graduate students and researchers in optimal control, the calculus of variations, and PDEs will find this book useful as a reference work on modern dynamic programming for nonlinear control systems. 26 cm. Variational methods in some shape optimization problems par Bucur,, Dorin. Publication : [S.l.] Edizioni della Normale 2002 . 217 p. , The study of shape optimization problems is a very wide field, both classical, as the isoperimetric problem and Newton problem of the best aerodynamical shape show, and modern, for all the recent results obtained in the last two, three decades. The fascinating feature is that the competing objects are shapes, i.e. domains of Rn, instead of functions, as usually occurs in problems of calculus of variations. This constraint often produces additional difficulties that lead to a lack of existence of a solution and the introduction of suitable relaxed formulations of the problem. However, in a few cases an optimal solution exists, due to the special form of the cost functional and to the geometrical restriction on the class of competing domains. This volume collects the lecture notes of two courses given in the academic year 2000/01 by the authors at the University of Pisa and at the Scuola Normale Superiore respectively. The courses were mainly addressed to Ph. D. students and required a background in the topics in functional analysis that are usually taught in undergraduate courses. 24 cm.
