Asymptotics for dissipative nonlinear equations / par Hayashi, Nakao. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 562 p. ; , Many of problems of the natural sciences lead to nonlinear partial differential equations. However, only a few of them have succeeded in being solved explicitly. Therefore different methods of qualitative analysis such as the asymptotic methods play a very important role. This is the first book in the world literature giving a systematic development of a general asymptotic theory for nonlinear partial differential equations with dissipation. Many typical well-known equations are considered as examples, such as: nonlinear heat equation, KdVB equation, nonlinear damped wave equation, Landau-Ginzburg equation, Sobolev type equations, systems of equations of Boussinesq, Navier-Stokes and others. 24 cm. Differential equations, dynamical systems, and an introduction to chaos, second edition / par Devaney,, Robert. Publication : [S.l.] : Academic Press, 2003 . 425 p. ; , Thirty years in the making, this revised text by three of the world's leading mathematicians covers the dynamical aspects of ordinary differential equations. it explores the relations between dynamical systems and certain fields outside pure mathematics, and has become the standard textbook for graduate courses in this area. The Second Edition now brings students to the brink of contemporary research, starting from a background that includes only calculus and elementary linear algebra. The authors are tops in the field of advanced mathematics, including Steve Smale who is a recipient of the Field's Medal for his work in dynamical systems. * Developed by award-winning researchers and authors * Provides a rigorous yet accessible introduction to differential equations and dynamical systems * Includes bifurcation theory throughout * Contains numerous explorations for students to embark upon NEW IN THIS EDITION * New contemporary material and updated applications * Revisions throughout the text, including simplification of many theorem hypotheses * Many new figures and illustrations * Simplified treatment of linear algebra * Detailed discussion of the chaotic behavior in the Lorenz attractor, the Shil'nikov systems, and the double scroll attractor * Increased coverage of discrete dynamical systems. 23 cm. Dynamical systems and numerical analysis par Stuart, Andrew. Publication : [S.l.] Cambridge University Press 1998 . 712 p. , This book unites the study of dynamical systems and numerical solution of differential equations. The first three chapters contain the elements of the theory of dynamical systems and the numerical solution of initial-value problems. In the remaining chapters, numerical methods are formulted as dynamical systems and the convergence and stability properties of the methods are examined. Topics studied include the stability of numerical methods for contractive, dissipative, gradient and Hamiltonian systems together with the convergence properties of equilibria, periodic solutions and strage attractors under numerical approximation. This book will be an invaluable tool for graduate students and researchers in the fields of numerical analysis and dynamical systems. 23 cm. Fluid flow phenomena : a numerical toolkit / par Orlandi, Paolo. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2001 . 376 p. ; , This book deals with the simulation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for laminar and turbulent flows. The book is limited to explaining and employing the finite difference method. It furnishes a large number of source codes which permit to play with the Navier-Stokes equations and to understand the complex physics related to fluid mechanics. Numerical simulations are useful tools to understand the complexity of the flows, which often is difficult to derive from laboratory experiments. This book, then, can be very useful to scholars doing laboratory experiments, since they often do not have extra time to study the large variety of numerical methods; furthermore they cannot spend more time in transferring one of the methods into a computer language. By means of numerical simulations, for example, insights into the vorticity field can be obtained which are difficult to obtain by measurements. This book can be used by graduate as well as undergraduate students while reading books on theoretical fluid mechanics; it teaches how to simulate the dynamics of flow fields on personal computers. This will provide a better way of understanding the theory. Two chapters on Large Eddy Simulations have been included, since this is a methodology that in the near future will allow more universal turbulence models for practical applications. The direct simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations (DNS) is simple by finite-differences, that are satisfactory to reproduce the dynamics of turbulent flows. A large part of the book is devoted to the study of homogeneous and wall turbulent flows. In the second chapter the elementary concept of finite difference is given to solve parabolic and elliptical partial differential equations. In successive chapters the 1D, 2D, and 3D Navier-Stokes equations are solved in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates. Finally, Large Eddy Simulations are performed to check the importance of the subgrid scale models. Results for turbulent and laminar flows are discussed, with particular emphasis on vortex dynamics. This volume will be of interest to graduate students and researchers wanting to compare experiments and numerical simulations, and to workers in the mechanical and aeronautic industries. 24 cm. Global attractors in abstract parabolic problems par Cholewa,, Jan W. Publication : [S.l.] Cambridge University Press 2000 . 248 p. , The study of dissipative equations has attracted substantial attention over many years. Much progress has been achieved using a combination of both finite dimensional and infinite dimensional techniques. In this book the authors exploit these same ideas to investigate the asymptotic behavior of dynamical systems corresponding to parabolic equations. In particular they present the theory of global attractors in detail. Extensive auxiliary material and rich references make this self-contained book a suitable introduction for graduate students. 23 cm. Introduction to asymptotic methods par Gao,, David Y. Publication : [S.l.] Chapman and Hall/CRC 2006 . 272 p. , Among the theoretical methods for solving many problems of applied mathematics, physics, and technology, asymptotic methods often provide results that lead to obtaining more effective algorithms of numerical evaluation. Presenting the mathematical methods of perturbation theory, Introduction to Asymptotic Methods reviews the most important methods of singular perturbations within the scope of application of differential equations. The authors take a challenging and original approach based on the integrated mathematical-analytical treatment of various objects taken from interdisciplinary fields of mechanics, physics, and applied mathematics. This new hybrid approach will lead to results that cannot be obtained by standard theories in the field. Emphasizing fundamental elements of the mathematical modeling process, the book provides comprehensive coverage of asymptotic approaches, regular and singular perturbations, one-dimensional non-stationary non-linear waves, Pad approximations, oscillators with negative Duffing type stiffness, and differential equations with discontinuous nonlinearities. The book also offers a method of construction for canonical variables transformation in parametric form along with a number of examples and applications. The book is applications oriented and features results and literature citations that have not been seen in the Western Scientific Community. The authors emphasize the dynamics of the development of perturbation methods and present the development of ideas associated with this wide field of researc 24 cm.
