Adaptation in dynamical systems par Tyukin, Ivan. Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . xvii, 410 pages , "In the context of this book, adaptation is taken to mean a feature of a system aimed at achieving the best possible performance, when mathematical models of the environment and the system itself are not fully available. This has applications ranging from theories of visual perception and the processing of information, to the more technical problems of friction compensation and adaptive classification of signals in fixed-weight recurrent neural networks. Largely devoted to the problems of adaptive regulation, tracking and identification, this book presents a unifying system-theoretic view on the problem of adaptation in dynamical systems. Special attention is given to systems with nonlinearly parameterized models of uncertainty. Concepts, methods and algorithms given in the text can be successfully employed in wider areas of science and technology. The detailed examples and background information make this book suitable for a wide range of researchers and graduates in cybernetics, mathematical modelling and neuroscience"-- 26 cm Date : 2011 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Essentials of Hamiltonian dynamics par Lowenstein, John H., Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2012 . xiii, 188 pages , "Classical dynamics is one of the cornerstones of advanced education in physics and applied mathematics, with applications across engineering, chemistry, and biology. In this book, the author uses a concise and pedagogical style to cover all the topics necessary for a graduate-level course in dynamics based on Hamiltonian methods. Readers are introduced to the impressive advances in the field during the second half of the twentieth-century, including KAM theory and deterministic chaos. Essential to these developments are some exciting ideas from modern mathematics, which are introduced carefully and selectively. Core concepts and techniques are discussed, together with numerous concrete examples to illustrate key principles"-- 26 cm. Fluid mechanics and thermodynamics of turbomachinery, fifth edition / par Ph.D.,, S.L. Dixon B.Eng. Publication : [S.l.] : Butterworth-Heinemann, 2005 . 412 p. ; , The fifth edition of this text will continue to be of use to engineers in industry and technological establishments, especially as brief reviews are included on many important aspects of Turbomachinery, giving pointers towards more advanced sources of information. For those looking towards the wider reaches of the subject area, very useful additional reading is referenced in the bibliography. The subject of Turbomachinery is in continual review, and while the basics do not change, research can lead to refinements in popular methods, and new data can emerge. This book has applications for professionals and students in many subsets of the mechanical engineering discipline, with carryover into thermal sciences; which include fluid mechanics, combustion and heat transfer; dynamics and vibrations, as well as structural mechanics and materials engineering. * An important, long overdue new chapter on Wind Turbines, with a focus on blade aerodynamics, with useful worked examples * Includes important material on axial flow compressors and pumps * Example questions and answers throughout and an available Solutions Manual. 23 cm. Introduction to surface and superlattice excitations, second edition / par Cottam,, Michael .G. Publication : [S.l.] : Taylor & Francis, 2004 . 516 p. ; , Cottam and Tilley provide an introduction to the properties of wave-like excitations associated with surfaces and interfaces. The emphasis is on acoustic, optic and magnetic excitations, and apart from one section on liquid surfaces, the text concentrates on solids. The important topic of superlattices is also discussed, in which the different kinds of excitation are considered from a unified point of view. Throughout the book, the authors are careful to relate theory and experiment and all of the most important experimental techniques are described. The theoretical treatment assumes only a knowledge of undergraduate physics, except for Green function methods that are used in a few sections; these methods are developed in an appendix. The book also contains extensive references, enabling the reader to consult the research and review literature. Each of the main chapters contains problems to allow the reader to develop topics presented in the text. 24 cm. Non-linear theory of elasticity and optimal design / par Ratner,, L.W. Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2003 . 279 p. ; , In order to select an optimal structure among possible similar structures, one needs to compare the elastic behavior of the structures. A new criterion that describes elastic behavior is the rate of change of deformation. Using this criterion, the safe dimensions of a structure that are required by the stress distributed in a structure can be calculated. The new non-linear theory of elasticity allows one to determine the actual individual limit of elasticity/failure of a structure using a simple non-destructive method of measurement of deformation on the model of a structure while presently it can be done only with a destructive test for each structure. For building and explaining the theory, a new logical structure was introduced as the basis of the theory. One of the important physical implications of this logic is that it describes mathematically the universal domain of the possible stable physical relations. 23 cm.
