Relativistic numerical hydrodynamics / par Wilson,, James R. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2003 . 232 p. ; , Calculations of relativistic hydrodynamics are crucial to several areas of current research in the physics of supernovae and stellar collapse. This book provides an overview of the computational framework in which such calculations have been developed, with examples of applications to real physical systems. Beginning with the development of the equations and differencing schemes for special relativistic hydrodynamics, the book stresses the viability of the Euler-Lagrange approach to most astrophysical problems. It details aspects of solving the Einstein equations together with the fluid dynamics for various astrophysical systems in one, two and three dimensions. 25 cm. Rheology of particulate dispersions and composites par Pal, Rajinder. Publication : [S.l.] CRC Press 2007 . 440 p. , Rheology of Particulate Dispersions and Composites provides comprehensive coverage of fundamental principles and equations that govern the rheology for particulate dispersions and two-phase solid composites. The rheological properties of suspensions, emulsions, bubbly liquids (foams) and other dispersions appear alongside those of solid composite materials for the first time in this unique, single source. The first section introduces applications, definitions, and important concepts such as fluid/solid/interfacial mechanics, bulk stress in dispersed systems, and dipole strength of particles. Subsequent chapters systematically consider the rheology for a wide variety of dispersions, including systems of: Rigid spherical and nonspherical particles (porous, nonporous, neutral, electrically charged, and magnetic particles) Nonrigid particles (deformable solid particles, droplets, bubbles, capsules, and core–shell particles) The final sections address the elastic properties of particle- and fiber-reinforced solid composite materials. They also discuss dynamic viscoelastic behavior of particulate dispersions and composites. From process design to novel materials development, Rheology of Particulate Dispersions and Composites illustrates the need for understanding rheological behavior throughout numerous commercial and industrial applications. This book is a versatile resource for students and scientists from a broad range of disciplines involved in the application, research, and development of dispersed systems. 23 cm. Sediment transport : a geophysical phenomenon par Gyr, Albert. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2006 . 283 p. , This textbook discusses the fundamental principles of sediment transport in the geophysical context of rivers and is intended as both a course textbook and as a guide for the practical engineer. We begin by describing phenomena such as bed load and suspension transport from a classical perspective by applying the mean wall shear stress approach while additionally incorporating a statistical description of the inherent wall shear stress fluctuations. Concepts from turbulent flow regime are introduced to address the limitations of the classical approach to various aspects of sediment transport, such as for example, the Newtonian description of dense suspensions, or the description of the self-organization processes for developing bed forms, or the prediction of transport in very rough bed conditions. In this context coherent structures and flow separation mechanisms are developed as important new elements, which allow using topological rules for the formulation of transport especially for developing bed forms. Since the most up-to-date research findings in the field are presented, this book serves as both a support in the formulation of academic research programs, and as a practical text for engineers seeking to simulate complex problems or special aspects of sediment transport. This book will therefore be of interest and of use to both students and to the professional scientist. 25 cm. Spectral/hp element methods for computational fluid dynamics par Karniadakis, George Em Publication : New York Oxford University Press 2005 . 657 p. , Spectral methods have long been popular in direct and large eddy simulation of turbulent flows, but their use in areas with complex-geometry computational domains has historically been much more limited. More recently the need to find accurate solutions to the viscous flow equations around complex configurations has led to the development of high-order discretization procedures on unstructured meshes, which are also recognized as more efficient for solution of time-dependent oscillatory solutions over long time periods. Here Karniadakis and Sherwin present a much-updated and expanded version of their successful first edition covering the recent and significant progress in multi-domain spectral methods at both the fundamental and application level. Containing over 50% new material, including discontinuous Galerkin methods, non-tensorial nodal spectral element methods in simplex domains, and stabilization and filtering techniques, this text aims to introduce a wider audience to the use of spectral/hp element methods with particular emphasis on their application to unstructured meshes. It provides a detailed explanation of the key concepts underlying the methods along with practical examples of their derivation and application, and is aimed at students, academics and practitioners in computational fluid mechanics, applied and numerical mathematics, computational mechanics, aerospace and mechanical engineering and climate/ocean modelling. 24 cm. Turbulence and shell models par Ditlevsen, Peter D. Publication : Cambridge, UK | New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . x, 152 pages , "Turbulence is a huge subject of ongoing research. This book bridges the modern development in dynamical systems theory and the theory of fully developed turbulence. Many solved and unsolved problems in turbulence have equivalencies in simple dynamical models, which are much easier to handle analytically and numerically. This book gives a modern view of the subject by first giving the essentials of the theory of turbulence before moving on to shell models. These show much of the same complex behaviour as fluid turbulence, but are much easier to handle analytically and numerically. Any necessary maths is explained and self-contained, making this book ideal for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, as well as researchers and professionals, wanting to understand the basics of fully developed turbulence"--Provided by publisher. 26 cm. Wave propagation and time reversal in randomly layered media / par Fouque, Jean-Pierre. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2007 . 612 p. ; , Wave propagation in random media is an interdisciplinary field that has emerged from the need in physics and engineering to model and analyze wave energy transport in complex environments. This book gives a systematic and self-contained presentation of wave propagation in randomly layered media using the asymptotic theory of ordinary differential equations with random coefficients. The first half of the book gives a detailed treatment of wave reflection and transmission in one-dimensional random media, after introducing gradually the tools from partial differential equations and probability theory that are needed for the analysis. The second half of the book presents wave propagation in three-dimensional randomly layered media along with several applications, primarily involving time reversal. Many new results are presented here for the first time. 24 cm. Date : 2007 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
