Laser aided diagnostics of gases and plasmas / par Muraoka,, K. Publication : [S.l.] : Taylor & Francis, 2002 . 200 p. ; , Laser-Aided Diagnostics of Gases and Plasmas is an updated and revised translation of the original Japanese edition. The authors have taken a unique approach in treating laser aided diagnostics as a unified subject instead of the usual and disjointed approach of describing each application as a totally separate system. In taking this approach, they highlight the relative strengths of each method and show how they can compliment each other in the study of gases and plasmas. The first part provides a general introduction to the laser-aided study of gases and plasmas, including the various principles and hardware needed for each method whilst the second part describes the applications of each general system in detail. This book will provide a useful tool for a wide spectrum of researchers, both academic and industrial, involved in the analysis and diagnostics of gases and plasmas and give a deeper insight and understanding of the various options and methods available when making such studies. 24 cm. Operator approach in linear problems of hydrodynamics par Kopachevsky,, Nikolay D. Publication : [S.l.] Birkhäuser Basel 2001 . 384 p. , This is the first volume of a set of two devoted to the operator approach to linear problems in hydrodynamics. It presents functional analytical methods applied to the study of small movements and normal oscillations of hydromechanical systems having cavities filled with either ideal or viscous fluids. The work is a sequel to and at the same time substantially extends the volume "Operator Methods in Linear Hydrodynamics: Evolution and Spectral Problems" by N.D. Kopachevsky, S.G. Krein and Ngo Zuy Kan, published in 1989 by Nauka in Moscow. It includes several new problems on the oscillations of partially dissipative hydrosystems and the oscillations of visco-elastic or relaxing fluids. The work relies on the authors' and their students' works of the last 30-40 years. The readers are not supposed to be familiar with the methods of functional analysis. In the first part of the present volume, the main facts of linear operator theory relevant to linearized problems of hydrodynamics are summarized, including elements of the theories of distributions, self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces and in spaces with an indefinite metric, evolution equations and asymptotic methods for their solutions, the spectral theory of operator pencils. The book is particularly useful for researchers, engineers and students in fluid mechanics and mathematics interested in operator theoretical methods for the analysis of hydrodynamical problems. 24 cm. Relativistic numerical hydrodynamics / par Wilson,, James R. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2003 . 232 p. ; , Calculations of relativistic hydrodynamics are crucial to several areas of current research in the physics of supernovae and stellar collapse. This book provides an overview of the computational framework in which such calculations have been developed, with examples of applications to real physical systems. Beginning with the development of the equations and differencing schemes for special relativistic hydrodynamics, the book stresses the viability of the Euler-Lagrange approach to most astrophysical problems. It details aspects of solving the Einstein equations together with the fluid dynamics for various astrophysical systems in one, two and three dimensions. 25 cm. Viscosity of liquids / par Viswanath, Dabir S. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2007 . 676 p. ; , This book is unique in that it brings together published viscosity data, experimental methods, theoretical, correlation and predictive procedures in a single volume. The - readers will get a better understanding of why various methods are used for measuring viscosity of different types of liquids and why an experimental method is dependent on fluid characteristics, such as Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluids. Undergraduate and graduate students in any science and engineering disciplines will find this book very useful. It is an excellent reference book for chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, and food engineers. Any researchers associated with chemical synthesis, process development, fluid flow, the petroleum industry, the chemical - industry or commercial enterprises will benefit significantly from this book. It is also recommended for design, professional, and practising engineers. 24 cm. Date : 2007 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Vorticity and turbulence par Chorin, Alexandre J. Publication : New york Springer 1994 . 182 p. , This book provides an introduction to turbulence in vortex systems, and to turbulence theory for incompressible flow described in terms of the vorticity field. It is the author's hope that by the end of the book the reader will believe that these subjects are identical, and constitute a special case of fairly standard statistical mechanics, with both equilibrium and non-equilibrium aspects. The author's main goal is to relate turbulence to statistical mechanics. The book is organized as follows: the first three chapters constitute a fairly standard introduction to homogeneous turbulence in incompressible flow; a quick review of fluid mechanics; a summary of the appropriate Fourier theory; a summary of Kolmogorov's theory of the inertial range. The next four chapters present the statistical theory of vortex notion, and the vortex dynamics of turbulence. The book ends with the major conclusion that turbulence can no longer be viewed as incomprehensible. This book will be appropriate for professionals in the fields of applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, or physics, as well as graduate students in these noted areas. 24 cm.
