Envelopes and sharp embeddings of function spaces par Haroske,, Dorothee D. Publication : [S.l.] Chapman and Hall/CRC 2006 . 222 p. , Until now, no book has systematically presented the recently developed concept of envelopes in function spaces. Envelopes are relatively simple tools for the study of classical and more complicated spaces, such as Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin types, in limiting situations. This theory originates from the classical result of the Sobolev embedding theorem, ubiquitous in all areas of functional analysis. Self-contained and accessible, Envelopes and Sharp Embeddings of Function Spaces provides the first detailed account of the new theory of growth and continuity envelopes in function spaces. The book is well structured into two parts, first providing a comprehensive introduction and then examining more advanced topics. Some of the classical function spaces discussed in the first part include Lebesgue, Lorentz, Lipschitz, and Sobolev. The author defines growth and continuity envelopes and examines their properties. In Part II, the book explores the results for function spaces of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin types. The author then presents several applications of the results, including Hardy-type inequalities, asymptotic estimates for entropy, and approximation numbers of compact embeddings. As one of the key researchers in this progressing field, the author offers a coherent presentation of the recent developments in function spaces, providing valuable information for graduate students and researchers in functional analysis. 24 cm. Frontiers in number theory, physics, and geometry I : on random matrices, zeta functions and dynamical systems / par Cartier,, Pierre Emile. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 490 p. ; , This book presents pedagogical contributions on selected topics relating Number Theory, Theoretical Physics and Geometry. The parts are composed of long self-contained pedagogical lectures followed by shorter contributions on specific subjects organized by theme. Most courses and short contributions go up to the recent developments in the fields; some of them follow their author?s original viewpoints. There are contributions on Random Matrix Theory, Quantum Chaos, Non-commutative Geometry, Zeta functions, and Dynamical Systems. The chapters of this book are extended versions of lectures given at a meeting entitled Number Theory, Physics and Geometry, held at Les Houches in March 2003, which gathered mathematicians and physicists. 24 cm. Fundamentals of differential geometry par Lang,, Serge. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2001 . 540 p. , This book provides an introduction to the basic concepts in differential topology, differential geometry, and differential equations, and some of the main basic theorems in all three areas. This new edition includes new chapters, sections, examples, and exercises. From the reviews: "There are many books on the fundamentals of differential geometry, but this one is quite exceptional; this is not surprising for those who know Serge Lang's books." --EMS NEWSLETTER. 24 cm. Geometric asymptotics par Guillemin, Victor. Publication : Providence, R.I. American Mathematical Society 1977 . 480 p. , Symplectic geometry and the theory of Fourier integral operators are modern manifestations of themes that have occupied a central position in mathematical thought for the past three hundred years--the relations between the wave and the corpuscular theories of light. The purpose of this book is to develop these themes, and present some of the recent advances, using the language of differential geometry as a unifying influence. Chapters included in this book are: Chapter I, Introduction. The method of stationary phase; Appendix I, Morse's lemma and some generalizations; Chapter II, Differential operators and asymptotic solutions; Chapter III, Geometrical optics; Chapter IV, Symplectic geometry; Chapter V, Geometric quantization; Chapter VI, Geometric aspects of distribution; Appendix to Chapter VI, The Plancherel formula for the complex semisimple Lie groups; Chapter VII, Compound Asymptotics; Appendix II, Various functorial constructions; Index. 26 cm. Geometric control theory par Jurdjevic, Velimir. Publication : [S.l.] Cambridge University Press 2008 . 512 p. , This book describes the mathematical theory inspired by the irreversible nature of time-evolving events. The first part of the book deals with the ability to steer a system from any point of departure to any desired destination. The second part deals with optimal control--the problem of finding the best possible course. The author demonstrates an overlap with mathematical physics using the maximum principle, a fundamental concept of optimality arising from geometric control, which is applied to time-evolving systems governed by physics as well as to man-made systems governed by controls. He draws applications from geometry, mechanics, and control of dynamical systems. The geometric language in which the author expresses the results allows clear visual interpretations and makes the book accessible to physicists and engineers as well as to mathematicians. 23 cm. Geometric methods and applications : for computer science and engineering par Gallier, Jean. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2011 . 698 p. , This book is an introduction to the fundamental concepts and tools needed for solving problems of a geometric nature using a computer. It attempts to fill the gap between standard geometry books, which are primarily theoretical, and applied books on computer graphics, computer vision, robotics, or machine learning.  This book covers the following topics: affine geometry, projective geometry, Euclidean geometry, convex sets, SVD and principal component analysis, manifolds and Lie groups, quadratic optimization, basics of differential geometry, and a glimpse of computational geometry (Voronoi diagrams and Delaunay triangulations). Some practical applications of the concepts presented in this book include computer vision, more specifically contour grouping, motion interpolation, and robot kinematics.   In this extensively updated second edition, more material on convex sets, Farkas’s lemma, quadratic optimization and the Schur complement have been added. The chapter on SVD has been greatly expanded and now includes a presentation of PCA.  The book is well illustrated and has chapter summaries and a large number of exercises throughout. It will be of interest to a wide audience including computer scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.  Reviews of first edition: "Gallier's book will be a useful source for anyone interested in applications of geometrical methods to solve problems that arise in various branches of engineering. It may help to develop the sophisticated concepts from the more advanced parts of geometry into useful tools for applications." (Mathematical Reviews, 2001) "...it will be useful as a reference book for postgraduates wishing to find the connection between their current problem and the underlying geometry." Geometrical theory of dynamical systems and fluid flows par Kambe, Tsutomu. Publication : New Jersey ; London World Scientific 2004 . 416 p. , This is an introductory textbook on the geometrical theory of dynamical systems, fluid flows, and certain integrable systems. The subjects are interdisciplinary and extend from mathematics, mechanics and physics to mechanical engineering, and the approach is very fundamental. The underlying concepts are based on differential geometry and theory of Lie groups in the mathematical aspect, and on transformation symmetries and gauge theory in the physical aspect. A great deal of effort has been directed toward making the description elementary, clear and concise, so that beginners will have an access to the topics. 24 cm.
