Algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations / par Freudenburg, Gene. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 261 p. ; , This book explores the theory and application of locally nilpotent derivations, which is a subject of growing interest and importance not only among those in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, but also in fields such as Lie algebras and differential equations. The author provides a unified treatment of the subject, beginning with 16 First Principles on which the entire theory is based. These are used to establish classical results, such as Rentschler’s Theorem for the plane, right up to the most recent results, such as Makar-Limanov’s Theorem for locally nilpotent derivations of polynomial rings. Topics of special interest include: progress in the dimension three case, finiteness questions (Hilbert’s 14 th Problem), algorithms, the Makar-Limanov invariant, and connections to the Cancellation Problem and the Embedding Problem. The reader will also find a wealth of pertinent examples and open problems and an up-to-date resource for research. 24 cm. Frontiers in number theory, physics, and geometry I : on random matrices, zeta functions and dynamical systems / par Cartier,, Pierre Emile. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 490 p. ; , This book presents pedagogical contributions on selected topics relating Number Theory, Theoretical Physics and Geometry. The parts are composed of long self-contained pedagogical lectures followed by shorter contributions on specific subjects organized by theme. Most courses and short contributions go up to the recent developments in the fields; some of them follow their author?s original viewpoints. There are contributions on Random Matrix Theory, Quantum Chaos, Non-commutative Geometry, Zeta functions, and Dynamical Systems. The chapters of this book are extended versions of lectures given at a meeting entitled Number Theory, Physics and Geometry, held at Les Houches in March 2003, which gathered mathematicians and physicists. 24 cm. Nilpotent lie algebras / par Goze,, M. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1996 . 352 p. ; , This volume is devoted to the theory of nilpotent Lie algebras and their applications. Nilpotent Lie algebras have played an important role over the last years both in the domain of algebra, considering its role in the classification problems of Lie algebras, and in the domain of differential geometry. Among the topics discussed here are the following: cohomology theory of Lie algebras, deformations and contractions, the algebraic variety of the laws of Lie algebras, the variety of nilpotent laws, and characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras in nilmanifolds. Audience: This book is intended for graduate students specialising in algebra, differential geometry and in theoretical physics and for researchers in mathematics and in theoretical physics. 25 cm. Random matrices, frobenius eigenvalues, and monodromy par Katz, Nicholas M. Publication : [S.l.] American Mathematical Society 1999 . 419 p. , The main topic of this book is the deep relation between the spacings between zeros of zeta and $L$-functions and spacings between eigenvalues of random elements of large compact classical groups. This relation, the Montgomery-Odlyzko law, is shown to hold for wide classes of zeta and $L$-functions over finite fields. The book draws on and gives accessible accounts of many disparate areas of mathematics, from algebraic geometry, moduli spaces, monodromy, equidistribution, and the Weil conjectures, to probability theory on the compact classical groups in the limit as their dimension goes to infinity and related techniques from orthogonal polynomials and Fredholm determinants. 26 cm. SHEAVES ON MANIFOLDS : WITH A SHORT HISTORY "LES DEBUTS DE LA THEORIE DES FAISCEAUX" BY CHRISTIAN HOUZEL / par Kashiwara, Masaki. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1990 . 512 p. ; , From the reviews: This book is devoted to the study of sheaves by microlocal methods..(it) may serve as a reference source as well as a textbook on this new subject. Houzel's historical overview of the development of sheaf theory will identify important landmarks for students and will be a pleasure to read for specialists. Math. Reviews 92a (1992). The book is clearly and precisely written, and contains many interesting ideas: it describes a whole, largely new branch of mathematics.(...)The book can be strongly recommended to a younger mathematician enthusiastic to assimilate a new range of techniques allowing flexible application to a wide variety of problems. Splitting deformations of degenerations of complex curves : towards the classification of atoms of degenerations, iii / par Takamura, Shigeru. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 594 p. ; , The author develops a deformation theory for degenerations of complex curves; specifically, he treats deformations which induce splittings of the singular fiber of a degeneration. He constructs a deformation of the degeneration in such a way that a subdivisor is "barked" (peeled) off from the singular fiber. These "barking deformations" are related to deformations of surface singularities (in particular, cyclic quotient singularities) as well as the mapping class groups of Riemann surfaces (complex curves) via monodromies. Important applications, such as the classification of atomic degenerations, are also explained. 24 cm.
