Algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations / par Freudenburg, Gene. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 261 p. ; , This book explores the theory and application of locally nilpotent derivations, which is a subject of growing interest and importance not only among those in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, but also in fields such as Lie algebras and differential equations. The author provides a unified treatment of the subject, beginning with 16 First Principles on which the entire theory is based. These are used to establish classical results, such as Rentschler’s Theorem for the plane, right up to the most recent results, such as Makar-Limanov’s Theorem for locally nilpotent derivations of polynomial rings. Topics of special interest include: progress in the dimension three case, finiteness questions (Hilbert’s 14 th Problem), algorithms, the Makar-Limanov invariant, and connections to the Cancellation Problem and the Embedding Problem. The reader will also find a wealth of pertinent examples and open problems and an up-to-date resource for research. 24 cm. Almost-bieberbach groups : affine and polynomial structures par Dekimpe, Karel. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 262 p. , Starting from basic knowledge of nilpotent (Lie) groups, an algebraic theory of almost-Bieberbach groups, the fundamental groups of infra-nilmanifolds, is developed. These are a natural generalization of the well known Bieberbach groups and many results about ordinary Bieberbach groups turn out to generalize to the almost-Bieberbach groups. Moreover, using affine representations, explicit cohomology computations can be carried out, or resulting in a classification of the almost-Bieberbach groups in low dimensions. The concept of a polynomial structure, an alternative for the affine structures that sometimes fail, is introduced. 24 cm. Combinatorics of coxeter groups / par Bjorner, Anders. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 370 p. ; , This book is a carefully written exposition of Coxeter groups, an area of mathematics which appears in algebra, geometry, and combinatorics. In this book, the combinatorics of Coxeter groups has mainly to do with reduced expressions, partial order of group elements, enumeration, associated graphs and combinatorial cell complexes, and connections with combinatorial representation theory. While Coxeter groups have already been exposited from algebraic and geometric perspectives, this book will be presenting the combinatorial aspects of Coxeter groups. The authors have included an exposition of Coxeter groups along with a rich variety of exercises, ranging from easy to very difficult, giving the book the unique character of serving as both a textbook and a monograph. 24 cm. Computation with finitely presented groups par Sims, Charles C. Publication : Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2010 . 604 pages , Research in computational group theory, an active subfield of computational algebra, has emphasized four areas: finite permutation groups, finite solvable groups, matrix representations of finite groups, and finitely presented groups. This book deals with the last of these areas. It is the first text to present the fundamental algorithmic ideas which have been developed to compute with finitely presented groups that are infinite, or at least not obviously finite. | The work of Baumslag, Cannonito, and Miller on computing nonabelian polycyclic quotients is described as a generalization of Buchberger's Grobner basis methods to right ideals in the integral group ring of a polycyclic group. Researchers in computational group theory, mathematicians interested in finitely presented groups, and theoretical computer scientists will find this book useful. 25 cm. Fusion systems in algebra and topology par Aschbacher, Michael Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . vi, 320 pages , "A fusion system over a p-group S is a category whose objects form the set of all subgroups of S, whose morphisms are certain injective group homomorphisms, and which satisfies axioms first formulated by Puig that are modelled on conjugacy relations in finite groups. The definition was originally motivated by representation theory, but fusion systems also have applications to local group theory and to homotopy theory. The connection with homotopy theory arises through classifying spaces which can be associated to fusion systems and which have many of the nice properties of p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups. Beginning with a detailed exposition of the foundational material, the authors then proceed to discuss the role of fusion systems in local finite group theory, homotopy theory and modular representation theory. The book serves as a basic reference and as an introduction to the field, particularly for students and other young mathematicians"-- 23 cm. Handbook of computational group theory par Holt, Derek F. Publication : [S.l.] Chapman and Hall/CRC 2005 . 536 p. , The origins of computation group theory (CGT) date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since then, the field has flourished, particularly during the past 30 to 40 years, and today it remains a lively and active branch of mathematics. The Handbook of Computational Group Theory offers the first complete treatment of all the fundamental methods and algorithms in CGT presented at a level accessible even to advanced undergraduate students. It develops the theory of algorithms in full detail and highlights the connections between the different aspects of CGT and other areas of computer algebra. While acknowledging the importance of the complexity analysis of CGT algorithms, the authors' primary focus is on algorithms that perform well in practice rather than on those with the best theoretical complexity. Throughout the book, applications of all the key topics and algorithms to areas both within and outside of mathematics demonstrate how CGT fits into the wider world of mathematics and science. The authors include detailed pseudocode for all of the fundamental algorithms, and provide detailed worked examples that bring the theorems and algorithms to life. 24 cm. Nilpotent lie algebras / par Goze,, M. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1996 . 352 p. ; , This volume is devoted to the theory of nilpotent Lie algebras and their applications. Nilpotent Lie algebras have played an important role over the last years both in the domain of algebra, considering its role in the classification problems of Lie algebras, and in the domain of differential geometry. Among the topics discussed here are the following: cohomology theory of Lie algebras, deformations and contractions, the algebraic variety of the laws of Lie algebras, the variety of nilpotent laws, and characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras in nilmanifolds. Audience: This book is intended for graduate students specialising in algebra, differential geometry and in theoretical physics and for researchers in mathematics and in theoretical physics. 25 cm. Representations of infinite-dimensional groups par Ismagilov, R. S. Publication : [S.l.] American Mathematical Society 1996 . 197 p. , This book is devoted to representations of two classes of infinite-dimensional groups: current groups and diffeomorphism groups. The author presents a complete treatment of the subject, including general methods for constructing irreducible representations of infinite-dimensional groups and general results about such representations.
