Algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations / par Freudenburg, Gene. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 261 p. ; , This book explores the theory and application of locally nilpotent derivations, which is a subject of growing interest and importance not only among those in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, but also in fields such as Lie algebras and differential equations. The author provides a unified treatment of the subject, beginning with 16 First Principles on which the entire theory is based. These are used to establish classical results, such as Rentschler’s Theorem for the plane, right up to the most recent results, such as Makar-Limanov’s Theorem for locally nilpotent derivations of polynomial rings. Topics of special interest include: progress in the dimension three case, finiteness questions (Hilbert’s 14 th Problem), algorithms, the Makar-Limanov invariant, and connections to the Cancellation Problem and the Embedding Problem. The reader will also find a wealth of pertinent examples and open problems and an up-to-date resource for research. 24 cm. Almost-bieberbach groups : affine and polynomial structures par Dekimpe, Karel. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 262 p. , Starting from basic knowledge of nilpotent (Lie) groups, an algebraic theory of almost-Bieberbach groups, the fundamental groups of infra-nilmanifolds, is developed. These are a natural generalization of the well known Bieberbach groups and many results about ordinary Bieberbach groups turn out to generalize to the almost-Bieberbach groups. Moreover, using affine representations, explicit cohomology computations can be carried out, or resulting in a classification of the almost-Bieberbach groups in low dimensions. The concept of a polynomial structure, an alternative for the affine structures that sometimes fail, is introduced. 24 cm. Buildings theory and applications par Abramenko, Peter. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2008 . 776 p. , This book treats Jacques Tit's beautiful theory of buildings, making that theory accessible to readers with minimal background. It covers all three approaches to buildings, so that the reader can choose to concentrate on one particular approach. Beginners can use parts of the new book as a friendly introduction to buildings, but the book also contains valuable material for the active researcher. This book is suitable as a textbook, with many exercises, and it may also be used for self-study. 24 cm. Clifford algebras and the classical groups par Porteous,, Ian R. Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2009 . x, 295 pages , "The Clifford algebras of real quadratic forms and their complexifications are studied here in detail, and those parts which are immediately relevant to theoretical physics are seen in the proper broad context. Central to the work is the classification of the conjugation and reversion anti-involutions that arise naturally in the theory. It is of interest that all the classical groups play essential roles in this classification. Other features include detailed sections on conformal groups, the eight-dimensional non-associative Cayley algebra, its automorphism group, the exceptional Lie group G[subscript 2], and the triality automorphism of Spin 8. The book is designed to be suitable for the last year of an undergraduate course or the first year of a postgraduate course."--Cover. 23 cm. Cohomological topics in group theory par Gruenberg, Karl W. Cohomology of groups par Brown, Kenneth S. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 1982 . 324 p. , Aimed at second year graduate students, this text introduces them to cohomology theory (involving a rich interplay between algebra and topology) with a minimum of prerequisites. No homological algebra is assumed beyond what is normally learned in a first course in algebraic topology, and the basics of the subject, as well as exercises, are given prior to discussion of more specialized topics. 24 cm. Combinatorics of coxeter groups / par Bjorner, Anders. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 370 p. ; , This book is a carefully written exposition of Coxeter groups, an area of mathematics which appears in algebra, geometry, and combinatorics. In this book, the combinatorics of Coxeter groups has mainly to do with reduced expressions, partial order of group elements, enumeration, associated graphs and combinatorial cell complexes, and connections with combinatorial representation theory. While Coxeter groups have already been exposited from algebraic and geometric perspectives, this book will be presenting the combinatorial aspects of Coxeter groups. The authors have included an exposition of Coxeter groups along with a rich variety of exercises, ranging from easy to very difficult, giving the book the unique character of serving as both a textbook and a monograph. 24 cm. Commutative harmonic analysis par Khavin, V. P. Publication : Berlin Springer 1991 . 268 p. , This is the first volume in the subseries Commutative Harmonic Analysis of the EMS. It is intended for anyone who wants to get acquainted with the discipline. The first article is a large introduction, also serving as a guide to the rest of the volume. Starting from Fourier analysis of periodic function, then going through the Fourier transform and distributions, the exposition leads the reader to the group theoretic point of view. Numer- rous examples illustrate the connections to differential and integral equations, approximation theory, number theory, probability theory and physics. The article also contains a brief historical essay on the development of Fourier analysis. The second article focuses on some of the classical problems of Fourier series; it's a "mini-Zygmund" for the beginner. In particular, the convergence and summability of Fourier series, translation invariant operators and theorems on Fourier coefficients are given special attention. The third article is the most modern of the three, concentrating on the theory of singular integral operators. The simplest such operator, the Hilbert transform, is covered in detail. There is also a thorough introduction to Calderon-Zygmund theory. 24 cm. Computation with finitely presented groups par Sims, Charles C. Publication : Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2010 . 604 pages , Research in computational group theory, an active subfield of computational algebra, has emphasized four areas: finite permutation groups, finite solvable groups, matrix representations of finite groups, and finitely presented groups. This book deals with the last of these areas. It is the first text to present the fundamental algorithmic ideas which have been developed to compute with finitely presented groups that are infinite, or at least not obviously finite. | The work of Baumslag, Cannonito, and Miller on computing nonabelian polycyclic quotients is described as a generalization of Buchberger's Grobner basis methods to right ideals in the integral group ring of a polycyclic group. Researchers in computational group theory, mathematicians interested in finitely presented groups, and theoretical computer scientists will find this book useful. 25 cm. Date : 2010 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
