Heart failure : a combined medical and surgical approach /   Publication : [S.l.] : Wiley-Blackwell, 2007 . 328 p. ; , Providing optimal care for heart failure patients is a complex challenge that requires cooperation and coordination across multiple disciplines. Now, you can apply the successful techniques pioneered at the Cleveland Clinic, which are carefully explored and explained in this text. Drs. McCarthy and Young draw on their experience to show how an interdisciplinary team works together to: arrive at a proper diagnosis initiate medical therapy make decisions regarding the best use of percutaneous therapies, surgical therapies, electrical therapies, and the use of mechanical circulatory support devices and transplantation. Throughout the book, they present the most updated evidence for both drug trials and surgical trials. They emphasize the benefits of performing the most complete surgery that is practical, then continuing medical therapy. Each chapter focuses on one aspect of treatment, but the authors recognize that the best way to manage an individual patient is often to adapt a variety of different therapies. They state their opinions clearly, identifying which part of care is science and which is art. Heart Failure: A Combined Medical and Surgical Approach is a true collaboration that helps you identify the most effective strategies – operative interventions, pacing and ICD treatment, new diagnostic tools, and pharmacotherapeutic developments – and implement them for your patients. 26 cm. Management of acute coronary syndromes par Gelfand,, Eli. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley 2009 . 238 p. , Acute Coronary Syndrome covers the spectrum of clinical conditions ranging from unstable angina to non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and ST elevation myocardial infarction. These life-threatening disorders are a major cause of emergency medical care, hospitalization and mortality. Management of Acute Coronary Syndromes is designed to provide busy clinicians with a comprehensive guide to the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of these syndromes. It encompasses the latest technologies, including the use of biomarkers and non-invasive imaging procedures. For each condition, the reader is taken through all of the therapeutic options available; in each case the indications and contraindications are evaluated in the light of the latest clinical trials. Potential complications are dealt with in a similar fashion, permitting the reader to anticipate and manage problems as they arise. The authors also present evidence-based recommendations for long-term care of at-risk patients, encompassing pharmacologic therapies and lifestyle management. The book concludes with a comprehensive collection of appendices that includetreatment algorithms, risk scores and a summary of the latest management guidelines. Management of Acute Coronary Syndromes is the most up to date and comprehensive evidence-based guide to managing acute coronary syndromes, in a compact and usable format. It will be of interest to busy specialist physicians in cardiovascular medicine, cardiac and vascular surgery, and critical care, as well as primary care physicians and hospitalists who care for patients with these syndromes. 22 cm. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy : from request to report par Bury,, Bob. Publication : [S.l.] CRC Press 2007 . 176 p. , There is general recognition that nuclear cardiology, and particularly myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS), is under-utilized in the UK when compared with practice in mainland Europe and the USA. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) is about to issue a report that will recognize the shortfall in provision, and this should lead to moves to improve the situation. Many imaging departments are likely to institute nuclear cardiology services, or to expand their current level of activity. As a result of this, there is undoubted need for a text that gives practical advice to those coming to the specialty for the first time. Filling this gap, Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy is a concise ‘hands on’ guide taking readers through all aspects of MPS, including: vetting requests deciding on the appropriate stress protocol and carrying it out the acquisition and processing of images through to their final interpretation and reporting assessment of the impact of imaging on patient management. Keeping references to radiation protection legislation and government initiatives as general as possible in order to retain the attention of those working outside of the United Kingdom, full use is also made of key points, tables and flow charts, with practical tips to aid newcomers to the specialty. Although the emphasis is on areas that the authors know give rise to difficulty, the approach is not limited to problem-solving, and there is comprehensive coverage of all areas of practice including, for example, stress testing and image interpretation. 25 cm. Normal and abnormal circadian characteristics in autonomic cardiac control New opportunities for cardiac risk prevention par Matveev, Mikhail Publication : New York Nova Science Publishers 2006 . xii, 155 p. , In this book the authors analyse the circadian characteristics of autonomic cardiac control in norm and in pathology through the indices of heart rate variability. The starting hypothesis was that the changes in the circadian nature of the autonomic balance have both specificity and sensitivity, i.e., they have a characteristic profile in the principal cardiovascular pathologies. The material is presented in eight chapters. The first four summarise the anatomical and the functional data on the nerve control of the cardiovascular system, on the circadian nature of the different systems securing that control, and on the variability of the heart rate as a method for studying the autonomic control of the heart. The next four chapters summarise the results of our studies clarifying the profiles of the circadian characteristics of the autonomic control in healthy individuals and in patients with arterial hypertension, ischaemic heart disease and heart failure. 27 cm.
