Domains in ferroic crystals and thin films par Tagantsev, Alexander K. Publication : New York Springer 2010 . xv, 821 p. , At present, the marketplace for professionals, researchers, and graduate students in solid-state physics and materials science lacks a book that presents a comprehensive discussion of ferroelectrics and related materials in a form that is suitable for experimentalists and engineers. This book proposes to present a wide coverage of domain-related issues concerning these materials. This coverage includes selected theoretical topics (which are covered in the existing literature) in addition to a plethora of experimental data which occupies over half of the book. The book presents experimental findings and theoretical understanding of ferroic (non-magnetic) domains developed during the past 60 years. It addresses the situation by looking specifically at bulk crystals and thin films, with a particular focus on recently-developed microelectronic applications and methods for observations of domains with techniques such as scanning force microscopy, polarized light microscopy, scanning optical microscopy, electron microscopy, and surface decorating techniques. "Domains in Ferroic Crystals and Thin Films" covers a large area of material properties and effects connected with static and dynamic properties of domains, which are extremely relevant to materials referred to as ferroics. In other textbooks on solid state physics, one large group of ferroics is customarily covered: those in which magnetic properties play a dominant role. Numerous books are specifically devoted to magnetic ferroics and cover a wide spectrum of magnetic domain phenomena. In contrast, "Domains in Ferroic Crystals and Thin Films" concentrates on domain-related phenomena in nonmagnetic ferroics. These materials are still inadequately represented in solid state physics textbooks and monographs. 24 cm. Hysteresis in magnetism : for physicists, materials scientists, and engineers / par Bertotti, Giorgio. Publication : [S.l.] : Academic Press, 1998 . 558 p. ; , This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the physics of hysteresis in magnetism and of the mathematical tools used to describe it. Hysteresis in Magnetism discusses from a unified viewpoint the relationsof hysteresis to Maxwells equations, equilibrium and non-equilibrium thermodynamics, non-linear system dynamics, micromagnetics, and domain theory. These aspects are then applied to the interpretation of magnetization reversal mechanisms: coherent rotation and switching in magnetic particles, stochastic domain wall motion and the Barkhausen effect, coercivity mechanisms and magnetic viscosity, rate-dependent hysteresis and eddy-current losses. The book emphasizes the connection between basic physical ideas and phenomenological models of interest to applications, and, in particular, to the conceptual path going from Maxwells equations and thermodynamics to micromagnetics and to Preisach hysteresis modeling. Key Features * The reader will get insight into the importance and role of hysteresis in magnetism; In particular, he will learn: * which are the fingerprints of hysteresis in magnetism * which are the situations in which hysteresis may appear * how to describe mathematically these situations * how to apply these descriptions to magnetic materials * how to interpret and predict magnetic hysteresis phenomena observed experimentally. 23 cm. Magnetoelectronics of microwaves and extremely high frequencies in ferrite films par Ignatiev,, Alexander A. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 353 p. , This book is devoted to an entirely new direction of the magnetoelectronics of millimetric waves in layered structures containing epitaxial ferrite films. The new electrodynamic approach for research of electromagnetic waves in layered bigyrotropic structures- excitation of waves in converters with parallel and orthogonal orientations- is evaluated. In addition, the results of experimental research are mentioned and new methods of not destroying diagnostics of ferrite films magnetic parameters are considered. The discrepancy of resonant frequencies and the magnetic fields corresponding to them, determined from magnetoscopia and electrodynamic theories, is shown. Results of research on parameters of passive devices on milliwatt and kilowatt levels of capacity on millimetric are also explained in this text. 24 cm. Opportunities in high magnetic field science / par Science,, Committee on Opportunities in High Magnetic Field. Publication : [S.l.] : National Academies Press, 2005 . 188 p. ; , High-field magnets - those that operate at the limits of the mechanical and/or electromagnetic properties of their structural materials - are used as research tools in a variety of scientific disciplines. The study of high magnetic fields themselves is also important in many areas such as astrophysics. Because of their importance in scientific research and the possibility of new breakthroughs, the National Science Foundation asked the National Research Council to assess the current state of and future prospects for high-field science and technology in the United States. This report presents the results of that assessment. It focuses on scientific and technological challenges and opportunities, and not on specific program activities. The report provides findings and recommendations about important research directions, the relative strength of U.S. efforts compared to other countries, and ways in which the program can operate more effectively. 25 cm.
