Basic principles of wastewater treatment : biological wastewater treatment volume 2 / par Sperling, Marcos von. Publication : [S.l.] : IWA Publishing, 2007 . 212 p. ; , Basic Principles of Wastewater Treatment is the second volume in the Biological Wastewater Treatment series, and focus on the unit operations and processes associated with biological wastewater treatment. The major topics covered are: . microbiology and ecology of wastewater treatment . reaction kinetics and reactor hydraulics . conversion of organic and inorganic matter . sedimentation . aeration. The theory presented in this volume forms the basis upon which the other books in the series are built. The Biological Wastewater Treatment series is based on the book Biological Wastewater Treatment in Warm Climate Regions and on a highly acclaimed set of best selling textbooks. This international version is comprised by six textbooks giving a state-of-the-art presentation of the science and technology of biological wastewater treatment. Other books in the Biological Wastewater Treatment series: Volume 1: Wastewater characteristics, treatment and disposal Volume 3: Waste stabilisation ponds Volume 4: Anaerobic reactors Volume 5: Activated sludge and aerobic biofilm reactors Volume 6: Sludge treatment and disposal. 23 cm. Graphics of large datasets : visualizing a million / par Unwin, Antony. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 271 p. ; , Graphics are great for exploring data, but how can they be used for looking at the large datasets that are commonplace to-day? This book shows how to look at ways of visualizing large datasets, whether large in numbers of cases or large in numbers of variables or large in both. Data visualization is useful for data cleaning, exploring data, identifying trends and clusters, spotting local patterns, evaluating modeling output, and presenting results. It is essential for exploratory data analysis and data mining. Data analysts, statisticians, computer scientists-indeed anyone who has to explore a large dataset of their own-should benefit from reading this book. New approaches to graphics are needed to visualize the information in large datasets and most of the innovations described in this book are developments of standard graphics. There are considerable advantages in extending displays which are well-known and well-tried, both in understanding how best to make use of them in your work and in presenting results to others. It should also make the book readily accessible for readers who already have a little experience of drawing statistical graphics. All ideas are illustrated with displays from analyses of real datasets and the authors emphasize the importance of interpreting displays effectively. Graphics should be drawn to convey information and the book includes many insightful examples. From the reviews: "Anyone interested in modern techniques for visualizing data will be well rewarded by reading this book. There is a wealth of important plotting types and techniques." Paul Murrell for the Journal of Statistical Software, December 2006 "This fascinating book looks at the question of visualizing large datasets from many different perspectives. Different authors are responsible for different chapters and this approach works well in giving the reader alternative viewpoints of the same problem. Interestingly the authors have cleverly chosen a definition of 'large dataset'. Essentially they focus on datasets with the order of a million cases. As the authors point out there are now many examples of much larger datasets but by limiting to ones that can be loaded in their entirety in standard statistical software they end up with a book that has great utility to the practitioner rather than just the theorist. Another very attractive feature of the book is the many colour plates, showing clearly what can now routinely be seen on the computer screen. The interactive nature of data analysis with large datasets is hard to reproduce in a book but the authors make an excellent attempt to do just this." P. Software configuration management using vesta / par Heydon,, Clark Allan. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 262 p. ; , This monograph addresses two core problems in developing large software projects: versioning and building. In order to develop and evolve large software code bases, software engineers need to understand the central role of automated, scalable software configuration management (SCM). Using the well-known Vesta system (an open-source SCM system developed at the Digital/Compaq Systems Research Center), the authors meticulously develop, demonstrate, and assess key concepts and methods to manage the evolution of large software systems. This book and the code of the Vesta system allow researchers to develop a deeper understanding of the problems inherent in large-scale software construction practices and techniques for their effective solution. 24 cm. Water technology, second edition : an introduction for environmental scientists and engineers / par Gray,, N. F. Publication : [S.l.] : Butterworth-Heinemann, 2005 . 600 p. ; , Water and wastewater engineering is the worlds biggest industry with more professionals working in it than in any other single industry sector. This accessible student textbook introduces the reader to the key concepts of water technology by explaining the fundamentals of hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystems, water treatment and supply and wastewater treatment. In 2000 the Water Framework Directive came into force - this is the most substantial piece of EC water legislation to date. It requires all inland and coastal waters to reach "good status" by 2015. Professor Gray includes the new framework throughout this new edition taking into account the implications of compliance and practice, as well as discussing the topical issue of sustainable principles in water management. Covers water quality and regulation Deals with water quality assessment, management and treatment Includes a new chapter on sustainability within water technology. 25 cm.
