		Advanced dynamics and control of structures and mechanics. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2004 . 292 p. ; , This book, intended for people in engineering and fundamental sciences, presents an integrated mathematical methodology for advanced dynamics and control of structures and machines, ranging from the derivation of models up to the control synthesis problem. This point of view is particularly useful as the physical insight and the associated structural properties, related e.g. to the Lagrangian or Hamiltonian framework, can be advantageously utilized. To this end, up to date results in disciplines like continuum mechanics, analytical mechanics, thermodynamics and electrodynamics are presented exploiting the differential geometric properties, with the basic notions of this coordinate-free approach revisited in an own chapter. 		Functional properties of bio-inspired surfaces Characterization and technological applications Publication : Singapore World Scientific Publishing 2009 . 387 p. , This review volume consists of a collection of articles, written by renowned scientists from different countries, on biomimetism and materials science. It starts with a detailed explanation of the four typical, useful properties of biological surfaces the shark skin effect (anti-friction surfaces), the lotus effect (self-cleaning or anti-adhesive surfaces), the gecko effect (dry adhesive surfaces) and the moth eye effect (anti-reflective surfaces) and shows their extended application in technology. Containing exercises and many examples, the author combines the maximum of physical insight with the minimum of mathematical detail where possible. The text is divided into three parts: Part I consists of a traditional introduction to the classical aspects of turbulence, the nature of turbulence, and the equations of fluid mechanics. Mathematics is kept to a minimum, presupposing only an elementary knowledge of fluid mechanics and statistics. Part II tackles the problem of homogeneous turbulence with a focus on numerical methods. Part III covers certain special topics rarely discussed in introductory texts. Many geophysical and astrophysical flows are dominated by the effects of body forces, such as buoyancy, Coriolis and Lorentz forces. Moreover, certain large-scale flows are approximately two-dimensional and this has led to a concerted investigation of two-dimensional turbulence over the last few years.
