From vectors to tensors / par Ruiz-Tolosa,, Juan R. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 550 p. ; , This textbook, deals with tensors that are treated as vectors, and has a practical orientation. In addition to dealing with the classical topics of tensor books, new tensor concepts are introduced, such as the rotation of tensors, the transposer tensor, the eigentensors, the permutation tensor structure, etc. The book covers an existing gap between the classic theory of tensors and the possibility of solving tensor problems with a computer. In fact, the computational algebra is formulated in matrix form to facilitate its implementation on computers. For the first time tensor contraction is formulated in terms of matrix operations. A computer package, written in Mathematica, is available through Internet that complements the book.   In summary, the book is not a standard book on tensors because of its orientation, the many novel contributions included in it, the careful notation and the stretching-condensing techniques used for most of the transformations used in the book. 24 cm. Frontiers in number theory, physics, and geometry I : on random matrices, zeta functions and dynamical systems / par Cartier,, Pierre Emile. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 490 p. ; , This book presents pedagogical contributions on selected topics relating Number Theory, Theoretical Physics and Geometry. The parts are composed of long self-contained pedagogical lectures followed by shorter contributions on specific subjects organized by theme. Most courses and short contributions go up to the recent developments in the fields; some of them follow their author?s original viewpoints. There are contributions on Random Matrix Theory, Quantum Chaos, Non-commutative Geometry, Zeta functions, and Dynamical Systems. The chapters of this book are extended versions of lectures given at a meeting entitled Number Theory, Physics and Geometry, held at Les Houches in March 2003, which gathered mathematicians and physicists. 24 cm. Geometry and quantum field theory : june 22-july 20, 1991, park city, utah par Freed, Daniel S. Publication : [S.l.] American Mathematical Society 1995 . 459 p. , Exploring topics from classical and quantum mechanics and field theory, this book is based on lectures presented in the Graduate Summer School at the Regional Geometry Institute in Park City, Utah, in 1991. The chapter by Bryant treats Lie groups and symplectic geometry, examining not only the connection with mechanics but also the application to differential equations and the recent work of the Gromov school. Rabin's discussion of quantum mechanics and field theory is specifically aimed at mathematicians. Alvarez describes the application of supersymmetry to prove the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, touching on ideas that also underlie more complicated applications of supersymmetry. Quinn's account of the topological quantum field theory captures the formal aspects of the path integral and shows how these ideas can influence branches of mathematics which at first glance may not seem connected. Presenting material at a level between that of textbooks and research papers, much of the book would provide excellent material for graduate courses. The book provides an entree into a field that promises to remain exciting and important for years to come. 27 cm. Hamiltonian methods in the theory of solitons par Faddeev, Ludwig. Publication : Berlin Springer 2007 . ix-592 p. , The main characteristic of this classic exposition of the inverse scattering method and its applications to soliton theory is its consistent Hamiltonian approach to the theory. The nonlinear SchrOdinger equation is considered as a main example, forming the first part of the book. The second part examines such fundamental models as the sine-Gordon equation and the Heisenberg equation, the classification of integrable models and methods for constructing their solution 24 cm. Interacting particle systems par Liggett,, Thomas M. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2004 . 512 p. , From the reviews "This book presents a complete treatment of a new class of random processes, which have been studied intensively during the last fifteen years. None of this material has ever appeared in book form before. The high quality of this work [...] makes a fascinating subject and its open problem as accessible as possible." Intermediate spectral theory and quantum dynamics / par Oliveira, César R. de. Publication : [S.l.] : Birkhäuser 2009 . 410 p. , The spectral theory of linear operators plays a key role in the mathematical formulation of quantum theory. Furthermore, such a rigorous mathematical foundation leads to a more profound insight into the nature of quantum mechanics. This textbook provides a concise and comprehensible introduction to the spectral theory of (unbounded) self-adjoint operators and its application in quantum dynamics. The book places emphasis on the symbiotic relationship of these two domains by (1) presenting the basic mathematics of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics of one particle, i.e., developing the spectral theory of self-adjoint operators in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces from the beginning, and (2) giving an overview of many of the basic functional aspects of quantum theory, from its physical principles to the mathematical models. The book is intended for graduate (or advanced undergraduate) students and researchers interested in mathematical physics. It starts with linear operator theory, spectral questions and self-adjointness, and ends with the effect of spectral type on the large time behaviour of quantum systems. Many examples and exercises are included that focus on quantum mechanics. 24 cm. Date : 2009 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Introductory functional analysis : with applications to boundary value problems and finite elements / par Reddy,, B. Daya. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1997 . 492 p. ; , This book provides an introduction to functional analysis and treats in detail its application to boundary-value problems and finite elements. The book is intended for use by senior undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, the physical sciences and engineering, who may not have been exposed to the conventional prerequisites for a course in functional analysis, such as real analysis. Mature researchers wishing to learn the basic ideas of functional analysis would also find the text useful. The text is distinguished by the fact that abstract concepts are motivated and illustrated wherever possible. Readers of this book can expect to obtain a good grounding in those aspects of functional analysis which are most relevant to a proper understanding and appreciation of the mathematical aspects of boundary-value problems and the finite element method. 24 cm. Lectures on quantum mechanics par Basdevant, Jean-Louis. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2007 . 324 p. , Beautifully illustrated and engagingly written, Twelve Lectures in Quantum Mechanics presents theoretical physics with a breathtaking array of examples and anecdotes. Basdevant’s style is clear and stimulating, in the manner of a brisk lecture that can be followed with ease and enjoyment. Here is a sample of the book’s style, from the opening of Chapter 1: "If one were to ask a passer-by to quote a great formula of physics, chances are that the answer would be ‘E = mc2’…. There is no way around it: all physics is quantum, from elementary particles, to stellar physics and the Big Bang, not to mention semiconductors and solar cells." 24 cm.
