Advanced visual quantum mechanics par Thaller,, Bernd. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2004 . 532 p. , Visual Quantum Mechanics is a systematic effort to investigate and to teach quantum mechanics with the aid of computer-generated animations. Although it is self-contained, this book is part of a two-volume set on Visual Quantum Mechanics. The first book appeared in 2000, and earned the European Academic Software Award in 2001 for oustanding innovation in its field. While topics in book one mainly concerned quantum mechanics in one- and two-dimensions, book two sets out to present three-dimensional systems, the hydrogen atom, particles with spin, and relativistic particles. Together the two volumes constitute a complete course in quantum mechanics that places an emphasis on ideas and concepts, with a fair to moderate amount of mathematical rigor. 24 cm. Intermediate spectral theory and quantum dynamics / par Oliveira, César R. de. Publication : [S.l.] : Birkhäuser 2009 . 410 p. , The spectral theory of linear operators plays a key role in the mathematical formulation of quantum theory. Furthermore, such a rigorous mathematical foundation leads to a more profound insight into the nature of quantum mechanics. This textbook provides a concise and comprehensible introduction to the spectral theory of (unbounded) self-adjoint operators and its application in quantum dynamics. The book places emphasis on the symbiotic relationship of these two domains by (1) presenting the basic mathematics of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics of one particle, i.e., developing the spectral theory of self-adjoint operators in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces from the beginning, and (2) giving an overview of many of the basic functional aspects of quantum theory, from its physical principles to the mathematical models. The book is intended for graduate (or advanced undergraduate) students and researchers interested in mathematical physics. It starts with linear operator theory, spectral questions and self-adjointness, and ends with the effect of spectral type on the large time behaviour of quantum systems. Many examples and exercises are included that focus on quantum mechanics. 24 cm. Date : 2009 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Lectures on quantum mechanics par Basdevant, Jean-Louis. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2007 . 324 p. , Beautifully illustrated and engagingly written, Twelve Lectures in Quantum Mechanics presents theoretical physics with a breathtaking array of examples and anecdotes. Basdevant’s style is clear and stimulating, in the manner of a brisk lecture that can be followed with ease and enjoyment. Here is a sample of the book’s style, from the opening of Chapter 1: "If one were to ask a passer-by to quote a great formula of physics, chances are that the answer would be ‘E = mc2’…. There is no way around it: all physics is quantum, from elementary particles, to stellar physics and the Big Bang, not to mention semiconductors and solar cells." 24 cm. Noncommutative spacetimes : symmetries in noncommutative geometry and field theory par Aschieri, Paolo. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 213 p. , There are many approaches to noncommutative geometry and to its use in physics. This volume addresses the subject by combining the deformation quantization approach, based on the notion of star-product, and the deformed quantum symmetries methods, based on the theory of quantum groups. The aim of this work is to give an introduction to this topic and to prepare the reader to enter the research field quickly. The order of the chapters is "physics first": the mathematics follows from the physical motivations (e.g. gauge field theories) in order to strengthen the physical intuition. The new mathematical tools, in turn, are used to explore further physical insights. A last chapter has been added to briefly trace Julius Wess' (1934-2007) seminal work in the field. 25 cm. Numerical quantum dynamics par Schweizer, W. Publication : Dordrecht ; Boston Springer 2001 . 267 p. , This book describes computational methods used in quantum dynamics with emphasis on small quantum systems. Computational physics is a fundamental physical discipline at the forefront of physical research. Thus it is an indisputable fact that computational physics form part of the essential landscape of physical science and education. In the present state of scientific knowledge the importance of quantum dynamics is commonplace. Computational quantum dynamics involves the use of computer calculations and simulations to solve quantum physical problems. Following a brief introduction to quantum dynamics the book revisits approximation techniques based on perturbational theory and variationalmethods. This discussion includes Hartree-Fock and density functional theory and quantum Monte Carlo methods. The next chapter presents the concepts of finite differences. Central in this chapter is the discretization in time and space. Later chapters concentrate on discrete variable techniques based on orthogonal polynomials, finite element and B-splinemethods for both time-independent and time-dependent problems and the combination of different computational techniques. The final chapter contains a list of useful sources for computational software and program codes. This book is primarily aimed at advanced students and graduates and researchers in theoretical and computational physics or chemistry and bridges the gap between quantum textbooks and computational research. Although not essential, the reader should have a basic background in quantum physics and some knowledge of numerical analysis would be helpful in reading this book. 25 cm. Quantum trajectories and measurements in continuous time the diffusive case par Barchielli, Alberto Publication : Berlin | Heidelberg Springer 2009 . 325 p. , This course-based monograph introduces the reader to the theory of continuous measurements in quantum mechanics and provides some benchmark applications. The approach chosen, quantum trajectory theory, is based on the stochastic Schrödinger and master equations, which determine the evolution of the a-posteriori state of a continuously observed quantum system and give the distribution of the measurement output. The present introduction is restricted to finite-dimensional quantum systems and diffusive outputs. Two appendices introduce the tools of probability theory and quantum measurement theory which are needed for the theoretical developments in the first part of the book. First, the basic equations of quantum trajectory theory are introduced, with all their mathematical properties, starting from the existence and uniqueness of their solutions. This makes the text also suitable for other applications of the same stochastic differential equations in different fields such as simulations of master equations or dynamical reduction theories. In the next step the equivalence between the stochastic approach and the theory of continuous measurements is demonstrated. To conclude the theoretical exposition, the properties of the output of the continuous measurement are analyzed in detail. This is a stochastic process with its own distribution, and the reader will learn how to compute physical quantities such as its moments and its spectrum. In particular this last concept is introduced with clear and explicit reference to the measurement process. The two-level atom is used as the basic prototype to illustrate the theory in a concrete application. Quantum phenomena appearing in the spectrum of the fluorescence light, such as Mollow’s triplet structure, squeezing of the fluorescence light, and the line width narrowing, are presented. Last but not least, the theory of quantum continuous measurements is the natural starting point to develop a feedback control theory in continuous time for quantum systems. The two-level atom is again used to introduce and study an example of feedback based on the observed output. 25 cm. The mathematical language of quantum theory From uncertainty to entanglement par Heinosaari, Teiko Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2012 . xii, 327 pages , "For almost every student of physics, the first course on quantum theory raises a lot of puzzling questions and creates a very uncertain picture of the quantum world. This book presents a clear and detailed exposition of the fundamental concepts of quantum theory: states, effects, observables, channels and instruments. It introduces several up-to-date topics, such as state discrimination, quantum tomography, measurement disturbance and entanglement distillation. A separate chapter is devoted to quantum entanglement. The theory is illustrated with numerous examples, reflecting recent developments in the field. The treatment emphasises quantum information, though its general approach makes it a useful resource for graduate students and researchers in all subfields of quantum theory. Focusing on mathematically precise formulations, the book summarises the relevant mathematics"-- | "THE MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE OF QUANTUM THEORY For almost every student of physics, their first course on quantum theory raises puzzling questions and creates an uncertain picture of the quantum world. Topological quantum field theory and four manifolds par Labastida, Jose Publication : Dordrecht Springer 2005 . 222 p. , The present book is the first of its kind in dealing with topological quantum field theories and their applications to topological aspects of four manifolds. It is not only unique for this reason but also because it contains sufficient introductory material that it can be read by mathematicians and theoretical physicists. On the one hand, it contains a chapter dealing with topological aspects of four manifolds, on the other hand it provides a full introduction to supersymmetry. The book constitutes an essential tool for researchers interested in the basics of topological quantum field theory, since these theories are introduced in detail from a general point of view. In addition, the book describes Donaldson theory and Seiberg-Witten theory, and provides all the details that have led to the connection between these theories using topological quantum field theory. It provides a full account of Witten’s magic formula relating Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten invariants. Furthermore, the book presents some of the recent developments that have led to important applications in the context of the topology of four manifolds. 25 cm.
