A Classical introduction to modern number theory / par Ireland,, Kenneth. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1990 . 389 p. ; , Bridging the gap between elementary number theory and the systematic study of advanced topics, A CLASSICAL INTRODUCTION TO MODERN NUMBER THEORY is a well-developed and accessible text that requires only a familiarity with basic abstract algebra. Historical developement is stressed throughout, along with wide-ranging coverage of significant results with comparitively elementary proofs, some of them new. An extensive bibliography and many challenging exercises are also included. This second edition has been corrected and contains two new chapters which provide a complete proof of the Mordel-Weil theorem for elliptic curves over the rational numbers, and an overview of recent progress on the arithmetic of elliptic curves. 24 cm. Combinatorics of coxeter groups / par Bjorner, Anders. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2005 . 370 p. ; , This book is a carefully written exposition of Coxeter groups, an area of mathematics which appears in algebra, geometry, and combinatorics. In this book, the combinatorics of Coxeter groups has mainly to do with reduced expressions, partial order of group elements, enumeration, associated graphs and combinatorial cell complexes, and connections with combinatorial representation theory. While Coxeter groups have already been exposited from algebraic and geometric perspectives, this book will be presenting the combinatorial aspects of Coxeter groups. The authors have included an exposition of Coxeter groups along with a rich variety of exercises, ranging from easy to very difficult, giving the book the unique character of serving as both a textbook and a monograph. 24 cm. Modern geometry - methods and applications : part I : the geometry of surfaces, transformation groups, and fields / par Dubrovin, B.A. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1991 . 492 p. ; , This is the first volume of a three-volume introduction to modern geometry, with emphasis on applications to other areas of mathematics and theoretical physics. Topics covered include tensors and their differential calculus, the calculus of variations in one and several dimensions, and geometric field theory. This material is explained in as simple and concrete a language as possible, in a terminology acceptable to physicists. The text for the second edition has been substantially revised. 24 cm. Riemann surfaces / par Farkas, Hershel M. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1991 . 388 p. ; , This text covers Riemann surface theory from elementary aspects to the fontiers of current research. Open and closed surfaces are treated with emphasis on the compact case. Basic tools are developed to describe the analytic, geometric, and algebraic properties of Riemann surfaces and the Abelian varities associated with these surfaces. Topics covered include existence of meromorphic functions, the Riemann-Roch theorem, Abel's theorem, the Jacobi inversion problem, Noether's theorem, and the Riemann vanishing theorem. A complete treatment of the uniformization of Riemann sufaces via Fuchsian groups, including branched coverings, is presented. Alternate proofs for the most important results are included, showing the diversity of approaches to the subject. For this new edition, the material has been brought up-to-date, and erros have been corrected. The book should be of interest no only to pure mathematicians, but also to physicists interested in string theory and related topics. 25 cm. The geometry of discrete groups par Beardon, Alan F. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 1983 . 368 p. , This text is about the geometric theory of discrete groups and the associated tesselations of the underlying space. The theory of Mbius transformations in n-dimensional Euclidean space is developed. These transformations are discussed as isometries of hyperbolic space and are then identified with the elementary transformations of complex analysis. A detailed account of analytic hyperbolic trigonometry is given, and this forms the basis of the subsequent analysis of tesselations of the hyperbolic plane. Emphasis is placed on the geometrical aspects of the subject and on the universal constraints which must be satisfied by all tesselation 24 cm.
