Chaotic vibrations : an introduction for applied scientists and engineers / par Moon,, Francis C. Publication : [S.l.] : Wiley-Interscience, 2004 . 309 p. ; , The book that brings order to chaos Fifteen years ago, Francis MoonЀ™s Chaotic Vibrations introduced, in practical language, the new ideas of nonlinear dynamics and chaos. Since then, the field has grown tremendously, and "chaos" has entered the vocabulary of not only physicists and mathematicians but also the general public. Researchers in nonlinear dynamics have broadened their scope to investigate ideas of complexity in natural and human-made systems, including networks in the brain, electric energy grids, and the Internet. With this paperback reissue of Professor MoonЀ™s classic, we hope to interest a new generation of readers intrigued by unpredictability in the laws of physics and its manifestation in the physical world in the form of chaotic dynamics. Written for engineers and applied scientists, Chaotic Vibrations gives specific examples and applications of chaotic dynamics in the physical world. It also describes how to perform both computer and physical experiments in chaotic dynamics. Topics covered include: Poincar‘̂ maps Fractal dimensions Lyapunov exponents Experiments in chaos Chaos in engineering Similar in its broad scope to James GleickЀ™s Chaos, only geared to a more technically curious reader, Chaotic Vibrations features an extensive guide to the literature, especially as it relates to more mathematically-oriented works; a glossary of nonlinear dynamics terms; a list of computer experiments; and details for a demonstration experiment on chaotic vibrations. This handy paperback version of Chaotic Vibrations arms engineers and researchers with the new tools of dynamical systems and prepares them to make their own contributions to this exciting and rapidly developing field. 24 cm. Engineering vibration / par Inman,, Daniel J. Publication : [S.l.] : Prentice Hall, 2007 . 688 p. ; , Serving as both text and reference manual, this text connects traditional design-oriented topics, the introduction of modal analysis, and the use of MATLAB. The author provides an unequaled combination of the study of conventional vibration with the use of vibration design, analysis and testing in various engineering applications. Special-interest windows utilized throughout the text placed at points where prior or background information summaries are required. Remind readers of essential information pertinent to the text material, preventing them from flipping to previous chapters or reference texts for formulas or other information. Examines topics that reflect some of the recent advances in vibration technology, changes in ABET criteria and the increased importance of both engineering design and modal analysis. Incorporates MATLAB Vibration Toolbox throughout allowing readers to conduct and explore vibration analysis. Toolbox offers professional quality computer analyses including basics, introduction to model analysis with actual experimental data files and finite elements. Readers are challenged with over 65 computer problems (645 problems in all) including use of manufacture's design charts, measurement analysis, and matrix eigenvalue computing for frequencies and modes. Ideal for readers with an interest in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. 25 cm. Fundamentals of multiphase flow / par Brennen Christopher., E., Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2005 . 368 p. ; , This book is targeted to graduate students and researchers at the cutting edge of investigations into the fundamental nature of multiphase flows. It is intended as a reference book for the basic methods used in the treatment of multiphase flows. The subject of multiphase flows encompasses a vast field whose broad spectrum presents a problem for the experimental and analytical methodologies that might be appropriate for the reader's interests. The aim of Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow is to bring much of this fundamental understanding together into one book, presenting a unifying approach to the fundamental ideas of multiphase flows. The book summarizes those fundamental concepts with relevance to a broad spectrum of multiphase flows. It does not pretend to present a comprehensive review of the details of any one multiphase flow or technological context; references to such reviews are included where appropriate. 26 cm. Non-linear theory of elasticity and optimal design / par Ratner,, L.W. Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2003 . 279 p. ; , In order to select an optimal structure among possible similar structures, one needs to compare the elastic behavior of the structures. A new criterion that describes elastic behavior is the rate of change of deformation. Using this criterion, the safe dimensions of a structure that are required by the stress distributed in a structure can be calculated. The new non-linear theory of elasticity allows one to determine the actual individual limit of elasticity/failure of a structure using a simple non-destructive method of measurement of deformation on the model of a structure while presently it can be done only with a destructive test for each structure. For building and explaining the theory, a new logical structure was introduced as the basis of the theory. One of the important physical implications of this logic is that it describes mathematically the universal domain of the possible stable physical relations. 23 cm.
