Advances in fatigue, fracture and damage assessment of materials par Varvani-Farahani, A. Publication : Southampton | Boston WIT Press 2005 . vii, 502 p. , The damage analysis of engineering materials and components is a prime concern in the durability assessment and integrity of engineering components in service. Engineering materials are routinely subjected to failure in a wide variety of applications in aeronautical, electronic, automotive, nuclear plant, petroleum and transportation industries. This book presents the fundamental elements and theories in fracture and damage analysis, plus the recent research and advances in the development of the analytical and practical approaches required to assess the materials damage and the durability of structures. The wide-ranging discussion on damage theories and practical issues in damage analysis will be of benefit to researchers, post-graduate students and engineers in practical sectors of durability and failure of materials and structures. 23 cm. Critical excitation methods in earthquake engineering / par Takewaki,, Izuru. Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2007 . 296 p. ; , Since the occurrence of earthquakes and their properties are very uncertain even with the present knowledge, it is too difficult to define reasonable design ground motions especially for important buildings. In the seismic resistant design of building structures, the concept of 'performance-based design' has become a new paradigm guaranteeing the maximum satisfaction of building owners. The quality and reliability of the performance-based design certainly depend on the scientific rationality of design ground motions. In order to overcome this problem, a new paradigm has to be posed. To the author's knowledge, the concept of 'critical excitation' and the structural design based upon this concept can become one of such new paradigms. This book introduces a new probabilistic and energy-based critical excitation approach to overcome several problems in the scientific and rational modelling of ground motions. The author hopes that this book will help the development of new seismic-resistant design methods of buildings for such unpredicted or unpredictable ground motions. - First comprehensive book for critical excitation methods - Including updated, cutting-edge research - Applicable to other worst-case analysis problems - Including comprehensive review of critical excitation methods - Including verification by comprehensive recorded ground motions. 25 cm. Fundamentals of multiphase flow / par Brennen Christopher., E., Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2005 . 368 p. ; , This book is targeted to graduate students and researchers at the cutting edge of investigations into the fundamental nature of multiphase flows. It is intended as a reference book for the basic methods used in the treatment of multiphase flows. The subject of multiphase flows encompasses a vast field whose broad spectrum presents a problem for the experimental and analytical methodologies that might be appropriate for the reader's interests. The aim of Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow is to bring much of this fundamental understanding together into one book, presenting a unifying approach to the fundamental ideas of multiphase flows. The book summarizes those fundamental concepts with relevance to a broad spectrum of multiphase flows. It does not pretend to present a comprehensive review of the details of any one multiphase flow or technological context; references to such reviews are included where appropriate. 26 cm. Mechanics of materials si 8/ed par Hibbeler, Russell C. Publication : [S.l.] Pearson Education Canada 2011 . 920 p. , This text presents both the theory and applications of mechanics of materials. It examines the physical behaviour of materials under load, then proceeds to model this behaviour to development theory. The contents of each chapter are organized into units that allow instructors greater flexibility in course emphasis. The text features exercises, examples, and free body diagrams. It contains over 1700 homework problems depicting realistic situations students are likely to encounter as engineers, integrating detailed and realistic illustrations to help students understand and solve the problems they will encounter in their careers. It also includes advanced material such as inelastic loadings, stress concentrations, residual stress, stresses in curved and composite beams and energy methods. 24 cm. Nanomaterials : mechanics and mechanisms / par Ramesh,, K.T. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2009 . 353 p. ; , The enabling science in much of nanotechnology today is the science of nanomaterials; indeed in the broadest sense, nanotechnology would not be possible without nanomaterials. Nanomaterials: Mechanics and Mechanisms seeks to provide an entr into the field for mechanical engineers, material scientists, chemical and biomedical engineers and physicists. The objective is to provide the reader with the connections needed to understand the intense activity in the area of the mechanics of nanomaterials, and to develop ways of thinking about these new materials that could be useful to both research and application. The book covers all of the fundamentals of the mechanical properties of materials in a highly readable style, and integrates most of the literature on the emerging field of nanomaterials into a coherent body of knowledge. This volume provides a basic understanding of mechanics and materials, and specifically nanomaterials and nanomechanics, in one self-contained text. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students will find well-organized chapters that provide the necessary background in mechanics, mechanical properties and modeling. The writing style illustrates concepts through quantitative modeling techniques, in contrast to theoretical abstractions of materials behavior. Problem sets within each chapter aim to motivate discussion and further study in this rich and bourgeoning field. Providing engineers with the knowledge necessary to take full advantage of the tremendous potential of nanomaterials, Nanomaterials: Mechanics and Mechanisms is a valuableteaching/learning tool formechanical engineering, physics and materials science au 24 cm. Structural synthesis in precision elasticity par Tseytlin,, Yakov M. Publication : New York Springer 2006 . 416 p. , The book consists of two main parts: structural synthesis methods for a precision elastic system, including effective approximations; and the application of precision functional elastic systems at reference and operating conditions. Each part provides theoretical basics and a large variety of examples of application and recommendations for parametric and structural optimization. A handbook as well as a textbook, it gives theoretical and practical tools to researchers, instrument system designers, engineers, metrologists, and also to students of college engineering courses. Special consideration is dedicated to the theory and applications of flexible helicoids, notch flexure hinges, and perforated plates whose methods of structural synthesis need development. 24 cm. Turbulence : an introduction for scientists and engineers / par Davidson,, P. A. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2004 . 678 p. ; , Based on a course by the author at the University of Cambridge, this comprehensive text on turbulence and fluid dynamics is aimed at year 4 undergraduates and graduates in applied mathematics, physics and engineering and provides an ideal reference for industry professionals and researchers. It bridges the gap between elementary accounts of turbulence found in undergraduate texts and more rigorous accounts given in monographs on the subject. Containing exercises and many examples, the author combines the maximum of physical insight with the minimum of mathematical detail where possible. The text is highly illustrated throughout, and includes color plates; all required mathematical techniques are covered in extensive appendices. The text is divided into three parts: Part I consists of a traditional introduction to the classical aspects of turbulence, the nature of turbulence, and the equations of fluid mechanics. Mathematics is kept to a minimum, presupposing only an elementary knowledge of fluid mechanics and statistics. Part II tackles the problem of homogeneous turbulence with a focus on numerical methods. Part III covers certain special topics rarely discussed in introductory texts. Many geophysical and astrophysical flows are dominated by the effects of body forces, such as buoyancy, Coriolis and Lorentz forces. Moreover, certain large-scale flows are approximately two-dimensional and this has led to a concerted investigation of two-dimensional turbulence over the last few years. Both the influence of body forces and two-dimensional turbulence are discussed. 25 cm. Date : 2004 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
