Predictive statistical mechanics a nonequilibrium ensemble formalism par Luzzi, Roberto. Publication : Dordrecht Springer 2002 . XL-301 p. , Chapters 1 to 5 include a description of the philosophy, foundations, and construction (methodology) of the formalism, including the derivation of a nonequilibrium grand-canonical ensemble for far-from-equilibrium systems as well as the derivation of a quantum nonlinear kinetic theory and a response function theory together with a theory of scattering. In chapter 6 applications of the theory are cataloged, making comparisons with experimental data (a basic step for the validation of any theory). Chapter 7 is devoted to the description of irreversible thermodynamics, providing a far-reaching generalization of Informational-Statistical Thermodynamics. The last chapter gives an overall picture of the formalism, and questions and criticisms related to it are discussed. 25 cm. Quantum chance and non-locality : probability and non-locality in the interpretations of quantum mechanics / par Dickson,, W. Michael. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2005 . 268 p. ; , This book examines in detail two of the fundamental questions raised by quantum mechanics. Is the world indeterministic? Are there connections between spatially separated objects? In the first part of the book after outlining the formalism of quantum mechanics and introducing the measurement problem, the author examines several interpretations, focusing on how each proposes to solve the measurement problem and on how each treats probability. In the second part, the author argues that there can be non-trivial relationships between probability (specifically, determinism and indeterminism) and non-locality in an interpretation of quantum mechanics. The author then re-examines some of the interpretations of part one of the book in the light of this argument, and considers how they are with regard to locality and Lorentz invariance. One of the important lessons that comes out of this discussion is that any examination of locality, and of the relationship between quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity, should be undertaken in the context of a detailed interpretation of quantum mechanics. The book will appeal to anyone with an interest in the interpretation of quantum mechanics, including researchers in the philosophy of physics and theoretical physics, as well as graduate students in those fields. 25 cm. Quantum mechanics par Devanathan,, V. Publication : [S.l.] Alpha Science International, Ltd 2005 . 346 p. , Quantum Mechanics describes the phenomena that matter and light exhibit on an atomic scale and so the study of atomic physics, nuclear physics and solid state physics are impossible without a clear understanding of the basic concepts and formalism of Quantum Mechanics. Since Physics deals essentially with numbers. the measurement of physical quantities and the calculations of these quantities on the basis of a theoretical framework. adequate attention has been paid to computation and numerical exercises. This book aims to promote a comprehensive understanding of the subject with illustrative examples. 25 cm. Quantum physics par Scheck, Florian. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2007 . 754 p. , Scheck’s Quantum Physics presents a comprehensive introductory treatment, ideally suited for a two-semester course. Part One covers the basic principles and prime applications of quantum mechanics, from the uncertainty relations to many-body systems. Part Two introduces to relativistic quantum field theory and ranges from symmetries in quantum physics to electroweak interactions. Numerous worked-out examples as well as exercises, with solutions or hints, enables the book’s use as an accompanying text for courses, and also for independent study. For both parts, the necessary mathematical framework is treated in adequate form and detail. The book ends with appendices covering mathematical fundamentals and enrichment topics, plus selected biographical notes on pioneers of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. 25 cm. Relativistic numerical hydrodynamics / par Wilson,, James R. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2003 . 232 p. ; , Calculations of relativistic hydrodynamics are crucial to several areas of current research in the physics of supernovae and stellar collapse. This book provides an overview of the computational framework in which such calculations have been developed, with examples of applications to real physical systems. Beginning with the development of the equations and differencing schemes for special relativistic hydrodynamics, the book stresses the viability of the Euler-Lagrange approach to most astrophysical problems. It details aspects of solving the Einstein equations together with the fluid dynamics for various astrophysical systems in one, two and three dimensions. 25 cm. Sediment transport : a geophysical phenomenon par Gyr, Albert. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2006 . 283 p. , This textbook discusses the fundamental principles of sediment transport in the geophysical context of rivers and is intended as both a course textbook and as a guide for the practical engineer. We begin by describing phenomena such as bed load and suspension transport from a classical perspective by applying the mean wall shear stress approach while additionally incorporating a statistical description of the inherent wall shear stress fluctuations. Concepts from turbulent flow regime are introduced to address the limitations of the classical approach to various aspects of sediment transport, such as for example, the Newtonian description of dense suspensions, or the description of the self-organization processes for developing bed forms, or the prediction of transport in very rough bed conditions. In this context coherent structures and flow separation mechanisms are developed as important new elements, which allow using topological rules for the formulation of transport especially for developing bed forms. Since the most up-to-date research findings in the field are presented, this book serves as both a support in the formulation of academic research programs, and as a practical text for engineers seeking to simulate complex problems or special aspects of sediment transport. This book will therefore be of interest and of use to both students and to the professional scientist. 25 cm.
