An introduction to regge theory and high energy physics par Collins, P. D. B. Publication : [S.l.] Cambridge University Press 2009 . 445 p. , Originally published in 1977, this book presents an extended introduction to the theory of hadrons, the elementary particles which occur in the atomic nucleus. The main emphasis is on the theory of the complex angular momentum plane 'Regge theory', which has grown from Regge's demonstration in 1959 that it is useful to regard angular momentum as a complex variable when discussing solutions of the Schrodinger equation for non-relativistic potential scattering. This theory helps to classify the many different particles which have been discovered in recent years, to explain the forces between these particles and to predict the results of high-energy scattering experiments. Regge theory thus serves as a unifying concept drawing together many different features of high-energy physics. This monograph is intended primarily for research students just beginning to concern themselves with particle physics, but more experienced workers will also find much to interest them in this detailed survey of the basic ideas and results of Regge theory. 23 cm. An introduction to the physics of high energy accelerators par Edwards, D. A. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-VCH 2004 . 304 p. , The first half deals with the motion of a single particle under the influence of electronic and magnetic fields. The basic language of linear and circular accelerators is developed. The principle of phase stability is introduced along with phase oscillations in linear accelerators and synchrotrons. Presents a treatment of betatron oscillations followed by an excursion into nonlinear dynamics and its application to accelerators. The second half discusses intensity dependent effects, particularly space charge and coherent instabilities. Includes tables of parameters for a selection of accelerators which are used in the numerous problems provided at the end of each chapter. 25 cm. Constructing reality quantum theory and particle physics par Marburger, John H. Publication : Cambridge, UK | New York : Cambridge University Press 2011 . viii, 287 pages , "Questions of the fundamental nature of matter continue to inspire and engage our imagination. However, the exciting new concepts of strings, supersymmetry and exotic matter build on ideas that are well known to physicists but mysterious and puzzling to people outside of these research fields. Covering key conceptual developments from the last century, this book provides a background to the bold ideas and challenges faced by physicists today. Quantum theory and the Standard Model of particles are explained with minimal mathematics, and advanced topics, such as gauge theory and quantum field theory, are put into context. With concise, lucid explanations, this book is an essential guide to the world of particle physics"-- | "This picture of the winding state vector glosses over the subtlety that we freely choose when as well as where or what to measure. The Dirac view separates the abstract state vector from all of these contingent choices. Moreover, the principles of relativity demand that we treat when and where (time and space) on a more or less equal footing. Thus a better choice for an omniscient picture corresponding to the classical 'tapestry of world lines' is a Master State Vector for all of nature in an abstract Hilbert space 'outside of space and time' whose coordinates bear labels for time as well as for distance or momentum and other properties. In this picture space-time, being a property of the detectors, not the underlying stuff, is a macroscopic phenomenon. For historical reasons, the picture in which the state vector depends on time is called the Schrodinger picture, and the alternative static case is called the Heisenberg picture"-- 24 cm. Lectures on quantum chromodynamics par Smilga, A. V. Publication : [S.l.] World Scientific 2001 . 322 p. , Quantum chromodynamics is the fundamental theory of strong interactions. It is a physical theory describing Nature. Lectures on Quantum Chromodynamics concentrates, however, not on the phenomenological aspect of QCD; books with comprehensive coverage of phenomenological issues have been written. What the reader will find in this book is a profound discussion on the theoretical foundations of QCD with emphasis on the nonperturbative formulation of the theory: What is gauge symmetry on the classical and on the quantum level? What is the path integral in field theory? How to define the path integral on the lattice, keeping intact as many symmetries of the continuum theory as possible? What is the QCD vacuum state? What is the effective low energy dynamics of QCD? How do the ITEP sum rules work? What happens if we heat and/or squeeze hadronic matter? Perturbative issues are also discussed: How to calculate Feynman graphs? What is the BRST symmetry? What is the meaning of the renormalization procedure? How to resum infrared and collinear singularities? And so on. The book is an outgrowth of the course of lectures given by the author for graduate students at ITEP in Moscow. Much extra material has been added. 22 cm. Date : 2001 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
