An Introduction to scientific computing : twelve computational projects solved with matlab / par Danaila, Ionut. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 294 p. ; , This book provides twelve computational projects aimed at numerically solving problems from a broad range of applications including Fluid Mechanics, Chemistry, Elasticity, Thermal Science, Computer Aided Design, Signal and Image Processing. For each project the reader is guided through the typical steps of scientific computing from physical and mathematical description of the problem, to numerical formulation and programming and finally to critical discussion of numerical results. Considerable emphasis is placed on practical issues of computational methods. The last section of each project contains the solutions to all proposed exercises and guides the reader in using the MATLAB scripts. The mathematical framework provides a basic foundation in the subject of numerical analysis of partial differential equations and main discretization techniques, such as finite differences, finite elements, spectral methods and wavelets). The book is primarily intended as a graduate-level text in applied mathematics, but it may also be used by students in engineering or physical sciences. It will also be a useful reference for researchers and practicing engineers. 24 cm. Date : 2006 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Dynamical systems and numerical analysis par Stuart, Andrew. Publication : [S.l.] Cambridge University Press 1998 . 712 p. , This book unites the study of dynamical systems and numerical solution of differential equations. The first three chapters contain the elements of the theory of dynamical systems and the numerical solution of initial-value problems. In the remaining chapters, numerical methods are formulted as dynamical systems and the convergence and stability properties of the methods are examined. Topics studied include the stability of numerical methods for contractive, dissipative, gradient and Hamiltonian systems together with the convergence properties of equilibria, periodic solutions and strage attractors under numerical approximation. This book will be an invaluable tool for graduate students and researchers in the fields of numerical analysis and dynamical systems. 23 cm. Grid generation methods par Liseikin, Vladimir D. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 390 p. , This text is an introduction to methods of grid generation technology in scientific computing. Special attention is given to methods developed by the author for the treatment of singularly-perturbed equations, e.g. in modeling high Reynolds number flows. Functionals of conformality, orthogonality, energy and alignment are discussed. 24 cm. Date : 2009 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Introductory functional analysis : with applications to boundary value problems and finite elements / par Reddy,, B. Daya. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1997 . 492 p. ; , This book provides an introduction to functional analysis and treats in detail its application to boundary-value problems and finite elements. The book is intended for use by senior undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, the physical sciences and engineering, who may not have been exposed to the conventional prerequisites for a course in functional analysis, such as real analysis. Mature researchers wishing to learn the basic ideas of functional analysis would also find the text useful. The text is distinguished by the fact that abstract concepts are motivated and illustrated wherever possible. Readers of this book can expect to obtain a good grounding in those aspects of functional analysis which are most relevant to a proper understanding and appreciation of the mathematical aspects of boundary-value problems and the finite element method. 24 cm. Mathematical analysis and numerical methods for science and technology : physical origins and classical methods / Volume 1 : par Dautray, Robert. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2000 . 722 p. ; , These 6 volumes - the result of a 10 year collaboration between the authors, two of France's leading scientists and both distinguished international figures - compile the mathematical knowledge required by researchers in mechanics, physics, engineering, chemistry and other branches of application of mathematics for the theoretical and numerical resolution of physical models on computers. Since the publication in 1924 of the "Methoden der mathematischen Physik" by Courant and Hilbert, there has been no other comprehensive and up-to-date publication presenting the mathematical tools needed in applications of mathematics in directly implementable form. The advent of large computers has in the meantime revolutionised methods of computation and made this gap in the literature intolerable: the objective of the present work is to fill just this gap. Many phenomena in physical mathematics may be modeled by a system of partial differential equations in distributed systems:! a model here means a set of equations, which together with given boundary data and, if the phenomenon is evolving in time, initial data, defines the system. The advent of high-speed computers has made it possible for the first time to calculate values from models accurately and rapidly. Researchers and engineers thus have a crucial means of using numerical results to modify and adapt arguments and experiments along the way. Every facet of technical and industrial activity has been affected by these developments. Modeling by distributed systems now also supports work in many areas of physics (plasmas, new materials, astrophysics, geophysics), chemistry and mechanics and is finding increasing use in the life sciences. The main physical examples examined in the 6 volumes are presented in Chapter I: Classical Fluids and the Navier-Stokes System; Linear Elasticity, Linear Viscoelasticity, Electromagnetism and Maxwell's Equation, Neutronics, and Quantum Physics. Then a first examin! ation of the mathematical model. 24 cm. Date : 2000 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
