Fiber optics : physics and technology par Mitschke, Fedor. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2010 . 298 p. , Telephone, telefax, email and internet - the key ingredient of the inner workings is the conduit: the line which is designed to carry massive amounts of data at breakneck speed. In their data-carrying capacity optical fiber lines beat other technologies (copper cable, microwave beacons, satellite links) hands down, at least in the long haul. This book is a comprehensive source about optical fibers: Their structure, their light-guiding mechanism, their material and manufacture, their use. Several effects tend to degrade the signal as it travels down the fiber: they are spelled out in detail. Nonlinear processes are given due consideration for a twofold reason: On one hand they are fundamentally different from the more familiar processes in electrical cable. On the other hand, they form the basis of particularly interesting and innovative applications, provided they are understood well enough. A case in point is the use of so-called solitons, i.e. special pulses of light which have the wonderful property of being able to heal after perturbation. The book starts with the physical basics of ray and beam optics, explains fiber structure and the functions of optical elements, and continues to the forefront of applications. The state of the art of high speed data transmission will be described, and the use of fiber optic sensors in metrology is treated. The book is written in a pedagogical style so that students of both physics and electrical engineering, as well as technicians and engineers involved in optical technologies, will benefit. 24 cm. Geometric asymptotics par Guillemin, Victor. Publication : Providence, R.I. American Mathematical Society 1977 . 480 p. , Symplectic geometry and the theory of Fourier integral operators are modern manifestations of themes that have occupied a central position in mathematical thought for the past three hundred years--the relations between the wave and the corpuscular theories of light. The purpose of this book is to develop these themes, and present some of the recent advances, using the language of differential geometry as a unifying influence. Chapters included in this book are: Chapter I, Introduction. The method of stationary phase; Appendix I, Morse's lemma and some generalizations; Chapter II, Differential operators and asymptotic solutions; Chapter III, Geometrical optics; Chapter IV, Symplectic geometry; Chapter V, Geometric quantization; Chapter VI, Geometric aspects of distribution; Appendix to Chapter VI, The Plancherel formula for the complex semisimple Lie groups; Chapter VII, Compound Asymptotics; Appendix II, Various functorial constructions; Index. 26 cm. Handbook of neutron optics par Utsuro, Masahiko. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-VCH 2010 . 610 p. , Written by authors with an international reputation, acknowledged expertise and teaching experience, this is the most up-to-date resource on the field. The text is clearly structured throughout so as to be readily accessible, and begins by looking at scattering of a scalar particle by one-dimensional systems. The second section deals with the scattering of neutrons with spin in one-dimensional potentials, while the third treats dynamical diffraction in three-dimensional periodic media. The final two sections conclude with incoherent and small angle scattering, and some problems of quantum mechanics. With its treatment of the theories, experiments and applications involved in neutron optics, this relevant reading for nuclear physicists and materials scientists alike. 25 cm. Handbook of nonlinear optical crystals par Dmitriev, Valentin G. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 1999 . 414 p. , This is the third revised edition of the book originally published in 1991. It provides a complete description of the properties and applications of nonlinear crystals. In addition, it presents the most important equations for calculating the main parameters of nonlinear frequency converters. This comprehensive reference work is now updated and will be of great value to all scientists and engineers working in nonlinear optics, quantum electronics and laser physics. 25 cm. Introduction to color imaging science / par Lee,, Hsien-Che. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2005 . 716 p. ; , Colour imaging technology has become almost ubiquitous in modern life in the form of monitors, liquid crystal screens, colour printers, scanners, and digital cameras. This book is a comprehensive guide to the scientific and engineering principles of colour imaging. It covers the physics of light and colour, how the eye and physical devices capture colour images, how colour is measured and calibrated, and how images are processed. It stresses physical principles and includes a wealth of real-world examples. The book will be of value to scientists and engineers in the colour imaging industry and, with homework problems, can also be used as a text for graduate courses on colour imaging. 25 cm. Introduction to Nonlinear Optics par New, Geoffrey Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . xv, 257 pages , "Since the early days of nonlinear optics in the 1960s, the field has expanded dramatically, and is now a vast and vibrant field with countless technological applications. Providing a gentle introduction to the principles of the subject, this textbook is ideal for graduate students starting their research in this exciting area. After basic ideas have been outlined, the book offers a thorough analysis of second harmonic generation and related second-order processes, before moving on to third-order effects, the nonlinear optics of short optical pulses and coherent effects such as electromagnetically-induced transparency. A simplified treatment of high harmonic generation is presented at the end. More advanced topics, such as the linear and nonlinear optics of crystals, the tensor nature of the nonlinear coefficients and their quantum mechanical representation, are confined to specialist chapters so that readers can focus on basic principles before tackling these more difficult aspects of the subject"-- 26 cm Date : 2011 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
