Non-linear theory of elasticity and optimal design / par Ratner,, L.W. Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2003 . 279 p. ; , In order to select an optimal structure among possible similar structures, one needs to compare the elastic behavior of the structures. A new criterion that describes elastic behavior is the rate of change of deformation. Using this criterion, the safe dimensions of a structure that are required by the stress distributed in a structure can be calculated. The new non-linear theory of elasticity allows one to determine the actual individual limit of elasticity/failure of a structure using a simple non-destructive method of measurement of deformation on the model of a structure while presently it can be done only with a destructive test for each structure. For building and explaining the theory, a new logical structure was introduced as the basis of the theory. One of the important physical implications of this logic is that it describes mathematically the universal domain of the possible stable physical relations. 23 cm. Noncommutative distributions : unitary representation of gauge groups and algebras par Albeverio, Sergio. Publication : [S.l.] M. Dekker, cop. 1993 . 190 p. , Covering important aspects of the theory of unitary representations of nuclear Lie groups, this self-contained reference presents the general theory of energy representations and addresses various extensions of path groups and algebras.;Requiring only a general knowledge of the theory of unitary representations, topological groups and elementary stochastic analysis, Noncommutative Distributions: examines a theory of noncommutative distributions as irreducible unitary representations of groups of mappings from a manifold into a Lie group, with applications to gauge-field theories; describes the energy representation when the target Lie group G is compact; discusses representations of G-valued jet bundles when G is not necessarily compact; and supplies a synthesis of deep results on quasi-simple Lie algebras.;Providing over 200 bibliographic citations, drawings, tables, and equations, Noncommutative Distributions is intended for research mathematicians and theoretical and mathematical physicists studying current algebras, the representation theory of Lie groups, and quantum field theory, and graduate students in these disciplines. 24 cm. Noncommutative spacetimes : symmetries in noncommutative geometry and field theory par Aschieri, Paolo. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 213 p. , There are many approaches to noncommutative geometry and to its use in physics. This volume addresses the subject by combining the deformation quantization approach, based on the notion of star-product, and the deformed quantum symmetries methods, based on the theory of quantum groups. The aim of this work is to give an introduction to this topic and to prepare the reader to enter the research field quickly. The order of the chapters is "physics first": the mathematics follows from the physical motivations (e.g. gauge field theories) in order to strengthen the physical intuition. The new mathematical tools, in turn, are used to explore further physical insights. A last chapter has been added to briefly trace Julius Wess' (1934-2007) seminal work in the field. 25 cm. Nonlinear cosmic ray diffusion theories par Shalchi,, Andreas. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2009 . 212 p. , This book deals with the physics of cosmic ray diffusion theory, focusing on the physics of nonlinear transport of cosmic rays through turbulent interplanetary or interstellar plasma. The author discusses fundamental processes such as cosmic ray propagation and acceleration in the solar system or in interstellar space, the properties of such plasmas, the standard quasilinear approach to describing plasma-particle interactions as well as several more accurate nonlinear theories. Within a nonlinear treatment he revisits the mechanism of diffusive shock acceleration, which is responsible for the high cosmic ray energies. Based on new results presented in this book the author proposes future numerical, theoretical and observational research that could advance the field of cosmic ray diffusion theory. 25 cm. Nonlocal continuum field theories par Eringen, A. Cemal. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2002 . 424 p. , Nonlocal continuum field theories are concerned with material bodies whose behavior at any interior point depends on the state of all other points in the body -- rather than only on an effective field resulting from these points -- in addition to its own state and the state of some calculable external field. Nonlocal field theory extends classical field theory by describing the responses of points within the medium by functionals rather than functions (the "constitutive relations" of classical field theory). Such considerations are already well known in solid-state physics, where the nonlocal interactions between the atoms are prevalent in determining the properties of the material. The tools developed for crystalline materials, however, do not lend themselves to analyzing amorphous materials, or materials in which imperfections are a major part of the structure. Nonlocal continuum theories, by contrast, can describe these materials faithfully at scales down to the lattice parameter. This book presents a unified approach to field theories for elastic solids, viscous fluids, and heat-conducting electromagnetic solids and fluids that include nonlocal effects in both space and time (memory effects). The solutions to the field equations agree remarkably well with atomic theories and experimental observations. 24 cm. Nuclear reactor physics par Stacey, Weston M. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-VCH 2007 . 735 p. , Nuclear reactor physics is the core discipline of nuclear engineering. Nuclear reactors now account for a significant portion of the electrical power generated worldwide, and new power reactors with improved fuel cycles are being developed. At the same time, the past few decades have seen an ever-increasing number of industrial, medical, military, and research applications for nuclear reactors. The second edition of this successful comprehensive textbook and reference on basic and advanced nuclear reactor physics has been completely updated, revised and enlarged to include the latest developments. 25 cm. Nuclear renaissance : technologies and policies for the future of nuclear power / par Nuttall,, William J. Publication : [S.l.] : Taylor & Francis, 2004 . 336 p. ; , Synopsis With growing concerns over environmental issues and global energy consumption, there is increasing interest in nuclear power generation, despite its diminished role in the West over the last few decades. Many of those involved with nuclear power and environmental agencies see controlled expansion of nuclear plants as the most environmentally friendly way of meeting growing energy demands. This book examines the future of nuclear power in the contexts of economics, environmental sustainability and security of electricity supplies. A range of future technologies is considered, illustrating the technical challenges and opportunities facing nuclear power. This semi-technical overview of modern technologies aims to meet the growing interest from scientists, environmentalists and governments in the potential expansion of nuclear power. Various countries are starting to announce plans for new nuclear plants, either to replace those being decommissioned or to provide additional power. Many commentators regard this renaissance as just beginning. Nuclear Renaissance is a timely appraisal of present nuclear power programme policy and technology, with a look to future expansion and new research directions. It will be essential reading for physicists, engineers, policy-makers, researchers, energy analysts and graduate students in energy sciences, engineering and public policy. 24 cm.
