Modeling complex systems / par Boccara,, Nino. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2003 . 397 p. ; , This book explores the process of modeling complex systems in the widest sense of that term, drawing on examples from such diverse fields as ecology, epidemiology, sociology, seismology, as well as economics. It also provides the mathematical tools for studying the dynamics of these systems. Boccara takes a carefully inductive approach in defining what it means for a system to be 'complex' (and at the same time addresses the equally elusive concept of emergent properties). This is the first text on the subject to draw comprehensive conclusions from such a wide range of analogous phenomena. 24 cm. Practical evaluation and management coding : a four-step guide for physicians and coders / par Taylor, Christopher L. Publication : [S.l.] : Humana Press, 2007 . 126 p. ; , Practical CPT Coding: A Four-Step Guide for Physicians explains the Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding process used by physicians and regulated by the American Medical Association.. In four chapters, Dr. Christopher Taylor establishes a step-by-step approach to determining the correct CPT code for the most common patient encounters in the office, hospital, or nursing home. After Step 1, identifying the patient category, the book details the three steps that deal with the components of E/M coding, including an essential medical decision making table that contributes to simple, correct, and logical E/M coding. In this text, physicians will find a comprehensive but manageable volume in which the standards set forth by the CMS and AMA are applied usefully and logically. 18 cm. Science and technology for army homeland security : report 1 / par Defense,, Committee on Army Science and Technology for Homeland. Publication : [S.l.] : National Academies Press, 2003 . 184 p. ; , The confluence of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and the U.S. Army's historic role to support civil authorities has resulted in substantial new challenges for the Army. To help meet these challenges, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology requested the National Research Council (NRC) carry out a series of studies on how science and technology could assist the Army prepare for its role in homeland security (HLS). The NRC's Board on Army Science and Technology formed the Committee on Army Science and Technology for Homeland Security to accomplish that assignment. The Committee was asked to review relevant literature and activities, determine areas of emphasis for Army S&T in support of counter terrorism and anti-terrorism, and recommend high-payoff technologies to help the Army fulfill its mission. The Department of Defense Counter-Terrorism Technology Task Force identified four operational areas in reviewing technical proposals for HLS operations: indications and warning; denial and survivability; recovery and consequence management; and attribution and retaliation. The study sponsor asked the Committee to use these four areas as the basis for its assessment of the science and technology (S&T) that will be important for the Army's HLS role. Overall, the Committee found that there is potential for substantial synergy between S&T work carried out by the Army for its HLS responsibilities and the development of the next generation Army, the Objective Force; and the Army National Guard (ARNG) is critical to the success of the Army's HLS efforts. 23 cm. Technology development for army unmanned ground vehicles / par Technology,, Committee on Army Unmanned Ground Vehicle. Publication : [S.l.] : National Academies Press, 2002 . 180 p. ; , Unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) are expected to play a key role in the Army's Objective Force structure. These UGVs would be used for weapons platforms, logistics carriers, and reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition among other things. To examine aspects of the Army's UGV program, assess technology readiness, and identify key issues in implementing UGV systems, among other questions, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology asked the National Research Council (NRC) to conduct a study of UGV technologies. This report discusses UGV operational requirements, current development efforts, and technology integration and roadmaps to the future. Key recommendations are presented addressing technical content, time lines, and milestones for the UGV efforts. 28 cm. The pediatric abacus par Cohen, M. L. Publication : New York | London Parthenon Pub. 2002 . xi, 110 p. , Long gone are the days of simply treating children as small adults. It is now well understood that they often require very different clinical management than the general patient population. Reflecting the special needs of the pediatric patient, The Pediatric Abacus: Review of Clinical Formulas and How to Use Them brings together - in a single resource - the basic mathematical formulas required for treating children in the clinical setting. Combining the convenient format of Dr. Rifkind's The Medical Abacus with Dr. Cohen's pediatric expertise, the book presents key clinical formulas with clear explanations and guidelines on how to interpret their results and use them for children. Each entry provides use, formula, interpretation, comparison between adult and child values when applicable, and references. Topics include: Blood gas values Height and weight norms for drug dosing and nutritional assessment Erthyrocyte indices for differential diagnosis of anemia Nitrogen balance and its relevance for assessing adequacy of protein intake Recommended protein requirement Pharmacokinetics and digoxin dosing Creatinine clearance and estimating glomerular filtration Designed to meet the needs of pediatricians and other clinicians involved in treating pediatric patients, The Pediatric Abacus: Review of Clinical Formulas and How to Use Them is a comprehensive yet concise reference that gives you quick and easy access to vital information. 24 cm. Theory of bridge aerodynamics / par Strłmmen,, Einar. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 239 p. ; , This textbook is intended for studies in structural dynamics or wind engineering, with special focus on the stochastic theory of wind induced dynamic response calculations for slender bridges or other line- like civil engineering type of structures. It contains the background assumptions and hypothesis as well as the development of the computational theory that is necessary for the prediction of wind induced fluctuating displacements and cross sectional forces. The book contains detailed and complete examples of relevant cases that are useful for the understanding and the practical application of the theory. The text is at an advanced level in the sense that it requires some knowledge of basic structural dynamics, particularly of solution procedures in a modal format. 25 cm. Theory of chemical reaction dynamics.   Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2004 . 504 p. ; , The theoretical treatment of chemical reaction dynamics has undergone spectacular development during the last few years, prompted by experimental progress. Beam production, spectroscopic detection using high resolution, polarized lasers allowing energy and angular momentum selection, etc. have advanced so much that the experiments now offer detailed scattering information for theory to explain and rationalize. At the same time, advances in computing and networking technologies for heteregeneous and grid environments afford new possibilities for theoretical studies of chemical reactivity. As a consequence, calculation of atom+diatom reactions has become routine, accurate methods have been developed to describe reactions in tetra-atomic systems, nonadiabatic reactions are being studied in simultaneous experimental and theoretical efforts, and statistical theories of unimolecular reaction dynamics are applied to systems that were a mystery a few years ago. The book represents a snapshot of the current status of research in reaction dynamics, focusing especially on accurate time-dependent and time-independent methods of quantum scattering, treatment of non-adiabatic processes, studies of associative and inelastic collisions, calculation of potential surfaces. 24 cm.
