Active control of vibration / par Fuller,, Christopher C. Publication : [S.l.] : Academic Press, 1997 . 332 p. ; , This book is a companion text to Active Control of Sound by P.A. Nelson and S.J. Elliott, also published by Academic Press. It summarizes the principles underlying active vibration control and its practical applications by combining material from vibrations, mechanics, signal processing, acoustics, and control theory. The emphasis of the book is on the active control of waves in structures, the active isolation of vibrations, the use of distributed strain actuators and sensors, and the active control of structurally radiated sound. The feedforward control of deterministic disturbances, the active control of structural waves and the active isolation of vibrations are covered in detail, as well as the more conventional work on modal feedback. The principles of the transducers used as actuateors and sensors for such control strategies are also given an in-depth description. The reader will find particularly interesting the two chapters on the active control of sound radiation from structures: active structural acoustic control. The reason for controlling high frequency vibration is often to prevent sound radiation, and the principles and practical application of such techniques are presented here for both plates and cylinders. The volume is written in textbook style and is aimed at students, practicing engineers, and researchers. * Combines material from vibrations, signal processing, mechanics, and controls * Summarizes new research in the field. 24 cm. Adaptation policy frameworks for climate change : developing strategies, policies and measures / par Burton, Ian. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2004 . 268 p. ; , Adaptation is a process by which individuals, communities and countries seek to cope with the consequences of climate change. The process of adaptation is not new; the idea of incorporating future climate risk into policy-making is. While our understanding of climate change and its potential impacts has become clearer, the availability of practical guidance on adaptation has not kept pace. The development of the Adaptation Policy Framework (APF) is intended to help provide the rapidly evolving process of adaptation policy-making with a much-needed roadmap. Ultimately, the purpose of the APF is to support adaptation processes to protect - and enhance - human well-being in the face of climate change. This volume will be invaluable for everyone working on climate change adaptation and policy-making. 28 cm. Adaptive filtering : algorithms and practical implementation / par Diniz, Paulo S.R. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2008 . 632 p. ; , This book presents the basic concepts of adaptive signal processing and adaptive filtering in a concise and straightforward manner. The main classes of adaptive filtering algorithms are presented in a unifed framework using clear notations that facilitate actual implementation. The main algorithms are described in tables which are detailed enough to allow the reader to verify the learned concepts. Many examples address problems drawn from actual applications. This book covers the family of LMS and algorithms as well as set-membership, sub-band, blind, IIR adaptive filtering, and more. Several problems are included at the end of chapters and some of these problems address applications. A user-friendly MATLAB package is provided where the reader can easily solve new problems and test all of the algorithms in a fast manner. Additionally, the book provides easy access to working algorithms for practicing engineers. The book has a solutions manual that is available from the publisher for instructors. Another resource for instructors is a set of master transparencies as a MATLAB Package including the MATLAB codes for all the algorithms described in the text which is available from the author. The author also has a webpage for the book. 27 cm. Date : 2008 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Advanced asic chip synthesis using synopsys℗ design compiler℗ physical compiler℗ and primetime℗ / par Bhatnagar, Himanshu. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2001 . 360 p. ; , Advanced ASIC Chip Synthesis: Using Synopsys TM Design CompilerTM Physical CompilerTM and PrimeTime TM, Second Edition describes the advanced concepts and techniques used towards ASIC chip synthesis, physical synthesis, formal verification and static timing analysis, using the Synopsys suite of tools. In addition, the entire ASIC design flow methodology targeted for VDSM (Very-Deep-Sub-Micron) technologies is covered in detail. The emphasis of this book is on real-time application of Synopsys tools, used to combat various problems seen at VDSM geometries. Readers will be exposed to an effective design methodology for handling complex, sub-micron ASIC designs. Significance is placed on HDL coding styles, synthesis and optimization, dynamic simulation, formal verification, DFT scan insertion, links to layout, physical synthesis, and static timing analysis. At each step, problems related to each phase of the design flow are identified, with solutions and work-around described in detail. In addition, crucial issues related to layout, which includes clock tree synthesis and back-end integration (links to layout) are also discussed at length. Furthermore, the book contains in-depth discussions on the basis of Synopsys technology libraries and HDL coding styles, targeted towards optimal synthesis solution. Target audiences for this book are practicing ASIC design engineers and masters level students undertaking advanced VLSI courses on ASIC chip design and DFT techniques. 24 cm. Advanced solid state physics / par Phillips,, Philip. Publication : [S.l.] : Westview Press, 2003 . 416 p. ; , Professor Phillips provides an accurate exploration and solid foundation for students and researchers of this fast-growing field. Solid state physics continues to be the fastest-growing sub-discipline in physics. This much anticipated new book provides ample background that underpins the principles of solid state physics, and moves quickly to an overview of current research in this fast-moving field. Upper division undergraduates and graduate students in physics who wish to pursue solid state physics research must master old topics, as well as problems of current interest. This book serves that purpose, and fills students' needs. 24 cm. Date : 2003 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations / par Freudenburg, Gene. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 261 p. ; , This book explores the theory and application of locally nilpotent derivations, which is a subject of growing interest and importance not only among those in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, but also in fields such as Lie algebras and differential equations. The author provides a unified treatment of the subject, beginning with 16 First Principles on which the entire theory is based. These are used to establish classical results, such as Rentschler’s Theorem for the plane, right up to the most recent results, such as Makar-Limanov’s Theorem for locally nilpotent derivations of polynomial rings. Topics of special interest include: progress in the dimension three case, finiteness questions (Hilbert’s 14 th Problem), algorithms, the Makar-Limanov invariant, and connections to the Cancellation Problem and the Embedding Problem. The reader will also find a wealth of pertinent examples and open problems and an up-to-date resource for research. 24 cm. An Introduction to geometrical physics / par Aldrovandi, R. Publication : [S.l.] : World Scientific Publishing Company, 1995 . 699 p. ; , This book stresses the unifying power of the geometrical framework in bringing together concepts from the different areas of physics. Common underpinnings of optics, elasticity, gravitation, relativistic fields, particle mechanics and others subjects are underlined. It attempts to extricate the notion of space currently in the physical literature from the metric connotation. The book's goal is to present mathematical ideas associated with geometrical physics in a rather introductory language. Included are many examples from elementary physics and also, for those wishing to reach a higher level of understanding, a more advanced treatment of the mathematical topics. It is aimed as an elementary text, more so than most others on the market, and is intended for first year graduate students. 22 cm.
