Asymptotics for dissipative nonlinear equations / par Hayashi, Nakao. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 562 p. ; , Many of problems of the natural sciences lead to nonlinear partial differential equations. However, only a few of them have succeeded in being solved explicitly. Therefore different methods of qualitative analysis such as the asymptotic methods play a very important role. This is the first book in the world literature giving a systematic development of a general asymptotic theory for nonlinear partial differential equations with dissipation. Many typical well-known equations are considered as examples, such as: nonlinear heat equation, KdVB equation, nonlinear damped wave equation, Landau-Ginzburg equation, Sobolev type equations, systems of equations of Boussinesq, Navier-Stokes and others. 24 cm. Atomic physics : an exploration through problems and solutions / par Budker, Dmitry. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2004 . 456 p. ; , This book is intended for advanced undergraduate, graduate students and researchers who are interested in Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics. Written as a collection of problems, hints and solutions, the book will provide help in learning about both fundamental and applied aspects of this vast field of knowledge, where rapid and exciting developments are currently taking place. The authors tough upon a broad spectrum of phenomena and techniques and adopt an experimentalist's approach, by avoiding formal calculations whenever possible in favor of "back-of-the-envelope" estimates, symmetry arguments and physical analogies. While complete coverage of all AMO Physics is not attempted, there are chapters on atomic structure, behavior of atoms and molecules in external electromagnetic fields, atomic collisions and experimental techniques. Special attention is given to a discussion of ideas and experimental methods in several "hot areas", a few of these being cold atoms and Bose-Einstein condensates, tests of fundamental symmetries, atomic magnetometers and frequency comb metrology with ultra-short laser pulses. 24 cm. Basic principles of wastewater treatment : biological wastewater treatment volume 2 / par Sperling, Marcos von. Publication : [S.l.] : IWA Publishing, 2007 . 212 p. ; , Basic Principles of Wastewater Treatment is the second volume in the Biological Wastewater Treatment series, and focus on the unit operations and processes associated with biological wastewater treatment. The major topics covered are: . microbiology and ecology of wastewater treatment . reaction kinetics and reactor hydraulics . conversion of organic and inorganic matter . sedimentation . aeration. The theory presented in this volume forms the basis upon which the other books in the series are built. The Biological Wastewater Treatment series is based on the book Biological Wastewater Treatment in Warm Climate Regions and on a highly acclaimed set of best selling textbooks. This international version is comprised by six textbooks giving a state-of-the-art presentation of the science and technology of biological wastewater treatment. Other books in the Biological Wastewater Treatment series: Volume 1: Wastewater characteristics, treatment and disposal Volume 3: Waste stabilisation ponds Volume 4: Anaerobic reactors Volume 5: Activated sludge and aerobic biofilm reactors Volume 6: Sludge treatment and disposal. 23 cm. Binding and dissociation kinetics for different biosensor applications using fractals par Sadana, Ajit. Publication : [S.l.] Elsevier Science 2006 . 384 p. , The application of biosensors is expanding in different areas. These are portable and convenient devices that permit the rapid, accurate, and reliable detection of analytes of interest present either in the atmosphere or in aqueous or in liquid phases. The detection of glucose levels in blood for the effective management of diabetes is one. Though different biosensors have been designed for an increasing number of applications, the kinetics of binding (and dissociation) of analytes by the receptors on the biosensor surfaces has not been given enough attention in the open literature. This is a very important area of investigation since it significantly impacts biosensor performance parameters such as stability, sensitivity, selectivity, response time, regenerability, etc. Binding and Dissociation Kinetics for Different Biosensor Applications Using Fractals addresses this critical need besides helping to correct or demonstrate the need to modify the present software available with commercial biosensors that determines the kinetics of analyte-receptor reactions on biosensor surfaces. * first book to provide detailed kinetic analysis of the binding and dissociation reactions that are occuring on the biosensor surface * addresses the area of analyte-receptor binding and dissociation kinetics occurring on biosensor surfaces * provides physical insights into reactions occuring on biosensor surfaces. 24 cm. Biology of the ubiquitous house sparrow : from genes to populations / par Anderson,, Ted R. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2006 . 560 p. ; , After the chicken, the House Sparrow is the most widely distributed bird species in the world, occurring on all continents except Antarctica and on most human-inhabited islands. Although its Latin name is Passer domesticus, it is certainly not domesticated. In fact, it is widely regarded as a pest species and is consequently not protected in most of its extensive range. This combination of ubiquity and minimal legal protection has contributed to its wide use in studies by avian biologists throughout the world. The purpose of this book is to review and summarize the results of these global studies on House Sparrows, and to provide a springboard for future studies on the species. House Sparrows have been used to study natural selection in introduced species, circadian rhythms, and the neuroendocrine control of the avian annual cycle. One current question of considerable interest concerns the catastrophic House Sparrow population declines in several urban centers in Europe. Is the House Sparrow a contemporary canary in the mine? Other topics of broad interest include the reproductive and flock-foraging strategies of sparrows, and sexual selection and the function of the male badge in the species. Anderson also explores the role of the House Sparrow in disease transmission to humans and their domesticated animals. 24 cm.
