MODAL ARRAY SIGNAL PROCESSING : PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATIONS OF ACOUSTIC WAVEFIELD DECOMPOSITION / par Teutsch, Heinz. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2007 . 253 p. ; , Many applications of acoustic signal processing, such as teleconferencing and surveillance systems, require an estimate of several parameters present in the observed acoustic wavefield. The most important parameters are the number as well as the location of active acoustic sources. This book deals with the problem of detecting and localizing multiple simultaneously active wideband acoustic sources by applying the notion of wavefield decomposition using circular and spherical microphone arrays. The decomposed wavefield representation is used to serve as a basis for so-called modal array signal processing algorithms, which have the significant advantage over classical array signal processing algorithms that they inherently support multiple wideband acoustic sources. A rigorous derivation of modal array signal processing algorithms for unambiguous source detection and localization as well as performance evaluations by means of measurements using an actual real-time capable implementation are discussed. 24 cm. Signal processing for computer vision par Granlund,, Gosta Publication : [S.l.] Springer 1900 . 437 p. , Signal Processing for Computer Vision is a unique and thorough treatment of the signal processing aspects of filters and operators for low-level computer vision. Computer vision has progressed considerably over recent years. From methods only applicable to simple images, it has developed to deal with increasingly complex scenes, volumes and time sequences. A substantial part of this book deals with the problem of designing models that can be used for several purposes within computer vision. These partial models have some general properties of invariance generation and generality in model generation. Signal Processing for Computer Vision is the first book to give a unified treatment of representation and filtering of higher order data, such as vectors and tensors in multidimensional space. Included is a systematic organisation for the implementation of complex models in a hierarchical modular structure and novel material on adaptive filtering using tensor data representation. Signal Processing for Computer Vision is intended for final year undergraduate and graduate students as well as engineers and researchers in the field of computer vision and image processing. 23 cm. Sparse image and signal processing wavelets, curvelets, morphological diversity par Starck, J.-L Publication : Cambridge | New York Cambridge University Press 2010 . xvii, 316 pages, [16] pages of plates , "Presenting the state of the art in sparse and multiscale image and signal processing, this book weds theory and practice to examine their applications in a diverse range of fields"--Provided by publisher. | "This book presents the state of the art in sparse and multiscale image and signal processing, covering linear multiscale transforms, such as wavelet, ridgelet, or curvelet transforms, and non-linear multiscale transforms based on the median and mathematical morphology operators. Recent concepts of sparsity and morphological diversity are described and exploited for various problems such as denoising, inverse problem regularization, sparse signal decomposition, blind source separation, and compressed sensing. This book weds theory and practice in examining applications in areas such as astronomy, biology, physics, digital media, and forensics. A final chapter explores a paradigm shift in signal processing, showing that previous limits to information sampling and extraction can be overcome in very significant ways. Matlab and IDL code accompany these methods and applications to reproduce the experiments and illustrate the reasoning and methodology of the research available for download at the associated Web site"--Provided by publisher. 27 cm. Statistical methods in counterterrorism : game theory, modeling, syndromic surveillance, and biometric authentication.   Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 292 p. ; , All the data was out there to warn us of this impending attack, why didn't we see it?" This was a frequently asked question in the weeks and months after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. In the wake of the attacks, statisticians moved quickly to become part of the national response to the global war on terror. This book is an overview of the emerging research program at the intersection of national security and statistical sciences. A wide range of talented researchers address issues in - Syndromic Surveillance---How do we detect and recognize bioterrorist events? - Modeling and Simulation---How do we better understand and explain complex processes so that decision makers can take the best course of action? - Biometric Authentication---How do we pick the terrorist out of the crowd of faces or better match the passport to the traveler? - Game Theory---How do we understand the rules that terrorists are playing by? This book includes technical treatments of statistical issues that will be of use to quantitative researchers as well as more general examinations of quantitative approaches to counterterrorism that will be accessible to decision makers with stronger policy backgrounds. Dr. Alyson G. Wilson is a statistician and the technical lead for DoD programs in the Statistical Sciences Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Gregory D. Wilson is a rhetorician and ethnographer in the Statistical Sciences Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. David H. Olwell is chair of the Department of Systems Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. 24 cm. Video traces for network performance evaluation : a comprehensive overview and guide on video traces and their utilization in networking research / par Seeling, Patrick. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 274 p. ; , Multimedia networking, especially the delivery video over the Internet, accounts for a large fraction of todayЀ™s and future computer networks. Working with actual video provides several challenges on different technical and social levels. Video traces - a representation of video data and video quality in textual format - present a different approach to facilitate studies with video traffic. Video Traces for Network Performance Evaluation provides a comprehensive introduction to video traces and their use in networking research. After first providing the basics of digital video and video coding, video traces are introduced, covering the metrics captured in the traces, the trace generation, as well as the statistical characteristics of the video characterized in the traces. Attention is then turned to the use of the video traces in networking research, examining the practical aspects of transporting video over Internet Protocol (IP) networks and the simulation of video transport using traces, including the simulations that incorporate the impact of transmission errors using offset distortion traces. Software tools and utilities that facilitate the use of video traces in network simulations and other video networking related software tools are also presented. 24 cm.
