Modeling and simulation of aerospace vehicle dynamics / par Zipfel, Peter H. Publication : [S.l.] : AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Ast, 2007 . 567 p. ; , This book unifies all aspects of flight dynamics for the efficient development of aerospace vehicle simulations. Now in its second edition, its purpose is still to provide the reader with a complete set of tools to build, program, and execute simulations. Unlike other books, it uses tensors for modeling flight dynamics in a form invariant under coordinate transformations. For implementation, the tensors are converted into matrices, resulting in compact computer code. The reader can pick FORTRAN templates of missiles, aircraft, or hypersonic vehicles from the complimentary "CADAC" CD-ROM to jump-start a particular application, and plot the results of CADAC Studio. It is the only textbook that combines the theory of modeling with hands-on examples of three-, five-, and six-DoF simulations. This new and enlarged edition also serves as anchor for a self-tutoring, three-part course of aerospace simulations in C++, available from AIAA. Amply illustrated with 318 figures and 44 examples, the text can be used for advanced undergraduate and graduate instruction or for self-study. Seventy eight problems and nine projects amplify the topics and develop the material further. Qualified instructors can obtain a complimentary solution manual from AIAA. This second edition contains two new appendices. The original Appendix C, which reviewed state-of-the-art FORTRAN simulations, has been replaced by the description of three self-study CD-ROMs of aerospace simulations in C++. These CDs broaden the applications of this book by spanning from simple three degrees of freedom cruise missiles to high fidelity missiles, aircraft, and hypersonic vehicles. The new Appendix D lays the theoretical foundation of tensor flight dynamics. It contains the proofs of the rotational time derivative and the Euler transformation. 24 cm. Nanochemistry : a chemical approach to nanomaterials / par Ozin,, Geoffrey A. Publication : [S.l.] : Royal Society of Chemistry, 2005 . 594 p. ; , "... [A] gem in the scientific literature". Michael W. Pitcher, Science , 21 July 2006 International interest in nanoscience research has flourished in recent years, as it becomes an integral part in the development of future technologies. The diverse, interdisciplinary nature of nanoscience means effective communication between disciplines is pivotal in the successful utilization of the science. Nanochemistry : A Chemical Approach to Nanomaterials is the first textbook for teaching nanochemistry and adopts an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to the subject. It presents a basic chemical strategy for making nanomaterials and describes some of the principles of materials self-assembly over 'all' scales. It demonstrates how nanometre and micrometre scale building blocks (with a wide range of shapes, compositions and surface functionalities) can be coerced through chemistry to organize spontaneously into unprecedented structures, which can serve as tailored functional materials. Suggestions of new ways to tackle research problems and speculations on how to think about assembling the future of nanotechnology are given. Primarily designed for teaching, this book will appeal to graduate and advanced undergraduate students. It is well illustrated with graphical representations of the structure and form of nanomaterials and contains problem sets as well as other pedagogical features such as further reading, case studies and a comprehensive bibliography. Geoffrey Ozin and André Arsenault are both based at the University of Toronto in Canada. Ozin has been the recipient of numerous awards and has made a huge contribution to teaching over the years, while his research work is widely published and recognised throughout the world. Philip Ball, renowned science writer and 2005 winner of the Aventis Prize for Science, commented: "A text that covers all the basic concepts of nanoscale chemistry and materials science, and sets them in their historical context, has been long overdue. But here it is — not just a comprehensive guide to the field, but a recipe book for the future. Nanoengineers, start here!" 24 cm. Operator approach in linear problems of hydrodynamics par Kopachevsky,, Nikolay D. Publication : [S.l.] Birkhäuser Basel 2001 . 384 p. , This is the first volume of a set of two devoted to the operator approach to linear problems in hydrodynamics. It presents functional analytical methods applied to the study of small movements and normal oscillations of hydromechanical systems having cavities filled with either ideal or viscous fluids. The work is a sequel to and at the same time substantially extends the volume "Operator Methods in Linear Hydrodynamics: Evolution and Spectral Problems" by N.D. Kopachevsky, S.G. Krein and Ngo Zuy Kan, published in 1989 by Nauka in Moscow. It includes several new problems on the oscillations of partially dissipative hydrosystems and the oscillations of visco-elastic or relaxing fluids. The work relies on the authors' and their students' works of the last 30-40 years. The readers are not supposed to be familiar with the methods of functional analysis. In the first part of the present volume, the main facts of linear operator theory relevant to linearized problems of hydrodynamics are summarized, including elements of the theories of distributions, self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces and in spaces with an indefinite metric, evolution equations and asymptotic methods for their solutions, the spectral theory of operator pencils. The book is particularly useful for researchers, engineers and students in fluid mechanics and mathematics interested in operator theoretical methods for the analysis of hydrodynamical problems. 24 cm. After three decades of research and development efforts, optical switching has started to be deployed in cutting-edge networking initiatives. The optical devices, optical networks, and telecommunications/data networking communities are in need of a reference book that compiles diverse optical switching research, from device technologies to system and network architectures, into one properly structured volume. This book provides such a service to these communities. The book is structured into three parts. The first part provides the foundation for understanding the potential role of optical switching in communication networks. The second part is focused on optical switching technologies and on devices based upon them. Theories, operation principles, and fabrication techniques are discussed. The third part covers optical-switching fabrics, systems, and networks. Applications of optical switching in communication networks are discussed, involving optical circuit, packet, and burst switching. The chapters are self-contained with minimum overlap. They bring together academic and industrial contributions, analytical and descriptive treatments, and cover theories, experimentation, and practice. The material has been carefully coordinated to form a homogeneous manuscript having a progressive and logical development of ideas and concepts. The book embraces a number of distinctive innovations. Old and new terminologies are investigated, clarified, redefined where necessary, and used consistently throughout the entire volume. The treatment of the subject is original, not only in terms of comprehensive coverage, but also in terms of structure and organization.   24 cm.
