Turbulence : an introduction for scientists and engineers / par Davidson,, P. A. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2004 . 678 p. ; , Based on a course by the author at the University of Cambridge, this comprehensive text on turbulence and fluid dynamics is aimed at year 4 undergraduates and graduates in applied mathematics, physics and engineering and provides an ideal reference for industry professionals and researchers. It bridges the gap between elementary accounts of turbulence found in undergraduate texts and more rigorous accounts given in monographs on the subject. Containing exercises and many examples, the author combines the maximum of physical insight with the minimum of mathematical detail where possible. The text is highly illustrated throughout, and includes color plates; all required mathematical techniques are covered in extensive appendices. The text is divided into three parts: Part I consists of a traditional introduction to the classical aspects of turbulence, the nature of turbulence, and the equations of fluid mechanics. Mathematics is kept to a minimum, presupposing only an elementary knowledge of fluid mechanics and statistics. Part II tackles the problem of homogeneous turbulence with a focus on numerical methods. Part III covers certain special topics rarely discussed in introductory texts. Many geophysical and astrophysical flows are dominated by the effects of body forces, such as buoyancy, Coriolis and Lorentz forces. Moreover, certain large-scale flows are approximately two-dimensional and this has led to a concerted investigation of two-dimensional turbulence over the last few years. Both the influence of body forces and two-dimensional turbulence are discussed. 25 cm. Date : 2004 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Publication : [S.l.] : Wiley, 2007 . 574 p. ; , This completely revised and updated edition of the highly successful UMTS Signaling provides a deep insight into all aspects of UMTS signalling. The chapter structure has been reworked for improved “usability” for readers, as well as including many new features and updates. The successful trial, deployment, operation and troubleshooting of 3G or UMTS infrastructures and applications is the biggest challenge facing today’s mobile communications. Network element instability, network element and multi-vendor interoperability, configuration and network planning faults are just a few of the challenges affecting performance and profitability that need to be addressed. This book is an invaluable guide to resolving such problems. Highlights of the Second Edition: Includes new information and scenarios on HSPA / HSDPA / HSUPA, and IMS Covers not only WCDMA, but also TD-SCDMA issues Contains up-to-date information on releases 5 and 6, and includes a new chapter on the future releases 7 and 8 Provides crucial information for network operators and equipment suppliers keen to understand how to handle and analyse UMTS signaling procedures in order to get the network into operation, detect errors and troubleshoot faults Uses first hand, real world information to explain issues which are unclear in the standards Includes comprehensive descriptions and documentation of UMTS reference scenarios for different UMTS procedures The unified comprehensive approach taken by the authors makes this book essential reading for engineers in network operators, integrators or system suppliers who need to be at the cutting edge of this technology. It will also be an invaluable resource for postgraduates on telecommunications courses, especially those with a focus on signal analysis. 25 cm. Viscosity of liquids / par Viswanath, Dabir S. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2007 . 676 p. ; , This book is unique in that it brings together published viscosity data, experimental methods, theoretical, correlation and predictive procedures in a single volume. The - readers will get a better understanding of why various methods are used for measuring viscosity of different types of liquids and why an experimental method is dependent on fluid characteristics, such as Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluids. Undergraduate and graduate students in any science and engineering disciplines will find this book very useful. It is an excellent reference book for chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, and food engineers. Any researchers associated with chemical synthesis, process development, fluid flow, the petroleum industry, the chemical - industry or commercial enterprises will benefit significantly from this book. It is also recommended for design, professional, and practising engineers. 24 cm. Date : 2007 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Wastewater treatment systems / par Olsson. Publication : [S.l.] : Other, 1999 . 750 p. , This is a book for those operating and studying biological wastewater treatment plants. It introduces the state-of-the-art in process systems analysis (modelling and simulation, monitoring and diagnosis, process control and instrumentation) and in particular its application to wastewater treatment. While the emphasis is on biological nutrient removal, there is discussion of anaerobic treatment, and the principles apply to any treatment process. For the computer literate there is also a collection of MATLAB programs and functions that are mentioned throughout the book. They will run on both the professional and student editions of MATLAB Version 5. Date : 1999 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des sciences de l'ingénieur (1),

Water resources systems analysis / par Karamouz, Mohammad. Publication : [S.l.] : CRC Press, 2003 . 608 p. ; , Experience has shown that structural solutions for water diversion, conservation, and transfer are not always the most efficient and economically sound alternatives. New, non-structural means of solving problems must be used to guarantee safe and efficient allocation of water to domestic, agricultural, and industrial customers.Focusing on conflict resolution, Water Resources Systems Analysis discusses systematic approaches for the mathematical modeling of various water resources issues, helping decision-makers allocate water effectively and efficiently. Readers will gain an understanding of simulation, optimization, multi-criterion-decision-making, as well as engineering economics and time series analysis, all necessary for successful water resources systems analysis. The book explores recent developments in surface and groundwater systems optimization and modeling, and relates these to real field applications and case studies.Supported by essential mathematical tools, this book gives current and future hydrologists, water resources managers, and civil engineers a logical reference for prioritizing and addressing critical issues such as flood control, power generation, and water quality management. 25 cm. Water technology, second edition : an introduction for environmental scientists and engineers / par Gray,, N. F. Publication : [S.l.] : Butterworth-Heinemann, 2005 . 600 p. ; , Water and wastewater engineering is the worlds biggest industry with more professionals working in it than in any other single industry sector. This accessible student textbook introduces the reader to the key concepts of water technology by explaining the fundamentals of hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystems, water treatment and supply and wastewater treatment. In 2000 the Water Framework Directive came into force - this is the most substantial piece of EC water legislation to date. It requires all inland and coastal waters to reach "good status" by 2015. Professor Gray includes the new framework throughout this new edition taking into account the implications of compliance and practice, as well as discussing the topical issue of sustainable principles in water management. Covers water quality and regulation Deals with water quality assessment, management and treatment Includes a new chapter on sustainability within water technology. 25 cm.
