Medical and care compunetics 6 par Bos, L. Publication : [S.l.] IOS Press 2010 . 259 p. , Medical and care compunetics is the field which deals with the social, societal and ethical implications of computing and networking in relation to health care. This book presents proceedings from the seventh annual conference of the International Council on Medical and Care Compunetics (ICMCC); the focus for knowledge exchange in this subject. ICMCC follows, by its nature, a multidisciplinary approach, and the subjects covered in the book are of interest not only to health professionals, but also to a wide range of those involved in health issues such as politicians, supporting specialists, administrators, researchers and developers - not forgetting the patients themselves. Some of the topics presented include: system design and evaluation, computer assisted learning, knowledge representation and ontologies, electronic health records and patient empowerment. The book represents a comprehensive overview of in depth, first hand information, and introduces new developments and advanced systems, technologies and applications to an international audience. IOS Press is an international science, technical and medical publisher of high-quality books for academics, scientists, and professionals in all fields. Some of the areas we publish in: -Biomedicine -Oncology -Artificial intelligence -Databases and information systems -Maritime engineering -Nanotechnology -Geoengineering -All aspects of physics -E-governance -E-commerce -The knowledge economy -Urban studies -Arms control -Understanding and responding to terrorism -Medical informatics -Computer Sciences. 25 cm. Modern communications jamming principles and techniques par Poisel,, Richard A. Publication : [S.l.] Artech House Publishers 2003 . 502 p. , This resource examines in detail the techniques and methods available to create countermeasures against anti-jam, over-the-air communications. It offers a practical guide that is focused on showing you how to design and build jammers specifically targeted at spread spectrum, anti-jam communications. Moreover, you find assistance in evaluating the expected performance of jamming systems against modern communications systems, and discover the best waveform to use to counter communication systems designed to be effective in jamming environments. While mathematical derivations in general are avoided, the book presents error rate performance equations for most modern digital anti-jam communication systems. Written with the professional engineer in mind, this cutting-edge book also serves as a reference for technical personnel new to the communication electronic warfare field due to the inclusion of easy-to-understand introductory material. This resource is packed with over 580 equations and more than 320 illustrations, including graphical examples that allow you to estimate general jammer performance at a glance. 24 cm. Networks, crowds, and markets Reasoning about a highly connected world par Easley, David Publication : New York Cambridge University Press 2010 . xv, 727 pages , "Over the past decade there has been a growing public fascination with the complex connectedness of modern society. This connectedness is found in many incarnations: in the rapid growth of the Internet, in the ease with which global communication takes place, and in the ability of news and information as well as epidemics and financial crises to spread with surprising speed and intensity. These are phenomena that involve networks, incentives, and the aggregate behavior of groups of people; they are based on the links that connect us and the ways in which our decisions can have subtle consequences for others. This introductory undergraduate textbook takes an interdisciplinary look at economics, sociology, computing and information science, and applied mathematics to understand networks and behavior. It describes the emerging field of study that is growing at the interface of these areas, addressing fundamental questions about how the social, economic, and technological worlds are connected"--Provided by publisher. 27 cm. Neural networks methodology and applications par Dreyfus, Gerard. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2010 . 498 p. , Neural networks represent a powerful data processing technique that has reached maturity and broad application. When clearly understood and appropriately used, they are a mandatory component in the toolbox of any engineer who wants make the best use of the available data, in order to build models, make predictions, mine data, recognize shapes or signals, etc. Ranging from theoretical foundations to real-life applications, this book is intended to provide engineers and researchers with clear methodologies for taking advantage of neural networks in industrial, financial or banking applications, many instances of which are presented in the book. For the benefit of readers wishing to gain deeper knowledge of the topics, the book features appendices that provide theoretical details for greater insight, and algorithmic details for efficient programming and implementation. The chapters have been written by experts and edited to present a coherent and comprehensive, yet not redundant, practically oriented introduction. 23 cm. Remote cardiology consultations using advanced medical technology applications for nato operations par Klapan, I. Publication : [S.l.] IOS Press 2006 . 180 p. , NATO operations have expanded in recent years, and the old Cold War concept of 'every nation provides its own medical support' is no longer tenable, nor is it NATO policy. In the future, NATO medical care will often be provided on a multinational basis, especially in case of emergencies such as NATO response to natural or man-made disasters or to terrorist actions. Even though deployed military personnel are usually young and relatively healthy, this is not the case for all those who may be provided care by NATO medical personnel. The pressures to "shorten the logistics tail", coupled with the shortage of trained cardiologists in most of our nations, has and will continue to preclude the routine deployment of cardiologists to all NATO operational missions. However, the need to provide services during these missions remains very real. Even following a natural disaster or exposure to toxic agents, the ability to distinguish a cardiac event from other causes of chest pain can be life-saving, and appropriate diagnosis will lead to improved survival, reduced inappropriate use of medical capabilities, and decreased inappropriate evacuation of patients.
