Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.   Publication : [S.l.] Humana Press 2007 . 234 p. , This volume is a compendium of cutting-edge molecular methods for the successful transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells. The availability of genetic profiles for committed and uncommitted stem cells combined with the determination of molecular steps involved in hematopoietic stem cell activation and self-renewal hold tremendous promise for future success in the clinic. Currently, stem cells can be quantified and sorted successfully, but transduction, labeling, and in vivo tracking of stem cells are difficult techniques with traditionally low efficiency levels. The contributors to this volume describe promising tools for stem cell transplant research models, such as in vivo bioluminescence imaging. Topics included in this volume are molecular profiling of hematopoietic stell cells, methods for imaging cell fates in hematopoiesis, PCR-SSP typing of HLA Class I and Class II alleles, sequence-based HLA typing, and typing minor HLA antigens. Also discussed in this volume are the roles of natural killer cells and killer inhibitor receptor polymorphisms, polymorphisms within epithelial receptors, molecular methods used for the detection of autologous graft contamination in lymphoid disorders, and the application of proteomics to posttransplantation follow-up. With the recent trend moving from gene expression to the protein expression profiles, the application of proteomics to the posttransplant follow-up of patients is becoming routine. As a result, this volume will become an invaluable source for biochemists, molecular biologists, and clinicians. 24 cm. Immunology : with student consult online access / par Male, David. Publication : [S.l.] : Mosby, 2006 . 564 p. ; , Extensively updated, with new contributors, brilliant new illustrations and a wealth of supporting material online, this 7th edition offers you a carefully structured approach to learning the building blocks of the immune system as well as initiation and actions of the immune response. The website which accompanies this text gives access to all the images in the book, up to 20 detailed animation sequences (which link to further supporting text, illustrations, molecular models and video clips), 8 lectures which explain how the immune system responds to different infections or to tissue grafts, and a test bank of 300 USMLE-style questions. * Includes "Critical Thinking Boxes" which encourage you to "think immunologically" and help you test your own understanding of material. * Provides extensive additional material online. * Incorporates clinical cases at the end of chapters to give you a realistic clinical context in which to anchor your understanding of immunology. * Uses high-yield-style chapter summaries to allow you a quick and effective way to double check all key concepts. * Strengthened chapter opening objectives give a clearer idea of what you should know by the end of each chapter. 28 cm.
