Interfaces in crystalline materials / par Sutton, A.P. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2007 . 856 p. ; , Aimed at graduate students and researchers, this book provides a comprehensive study of interfaces within and between materials, a central concern to all materials scientists. It is comprised of four parts, covering the structure, thermodynamics, kinetics, and properties of interfaces in crystalline materials. Emphasis throughout is on conceptual foundations through the exposition of simple models and descriptions of key experimental observations. The reader is taken through the foundations to the forefront of current research by two of the leading researchers in the area. Due to high levels of demand for use as a textbook, the original edition-- published in 1995-- has been reprinted and reissued with a less expensive hardcover binding. 24 cm. Date : 2007 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),

Introduction to scanning tunneling microscopy par Chen, C. Julian. Publication : [S.l.] : Oxford University Press, USA, 2007 . 432 p. , The scanning tunneling microscopes and the atomic force microscopy, both capable of imaging and manipulating individual atoms, were crowned with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1986, and are the cornerstones of nanotechnology today. The first edition of this book has nurtured numerous beginners and experts since 1993. The second edition includes a number of new developments in the field. Non-contact atomic-force microscopy has demonstrated true atomic resolution. It enables direct observation and mapping of individual chemical bonds. A new chapter about the underlying physics, atomic forces, is added. The chapter on atomic force microscopy is substantially expanded. Spin-polarized STM has enabled the observation of local magnetic phenomena down to atomic scale. A pedagogical presentation of the basic concepts is included. Inelastic scanning tunneling microscopy has shown the capability of studying vibrational modes of individual molecules. The underlying theory and new instrumentation are added. For biological research, to increase the speed of scanning to observe life phenomena in real time is a key. Advanced in this direction is presented as well. The capability of STM to manipulate individual atoms is one of the cornerstones of nanotechnology. The theoretical basis and in particular the relation between tunneling and interaction energy are thoroughly presented, together with experimental facts. 24 cm. Nmr imaging of materials par Blumich, Bernhard. Publication : Oxford : Oxford University Press, USA 2000 . 568 p. , NMR imaging of materials is a field of increasing importance. Applications expand from fundamental science like the characterization of fluid transport in porous rock, catalyst pellets and hemodialyzers into various fields of engineering for process optimization and product and quality control, for example, of polymer materials, biomaterials, elastomers, and ceramics. While the results of NMR imaging are being appreciated in a growing community, the methods of imaging are far more diverse for materials applications that for medical imaging of humans. This book provides an introduction to NMR imaging of materials covering solid-state NMR spectroscopy, imaging methods for liquid and solid samples and unusual NMR in terms of special approaches to spatial resolution like an NMR surface scanner. SPecial attention is paid to the large variety of ways to generate image contrast-the most prominent feature of NMR. The text is strong on methodology, and includes today's important application areas. 24 cm. Date : 2000 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
