Atlas of veterinary hematology Blood and bone marrow of domestic animals par Harvey, John W. Publication : Philadelphia Saunders 2001 . 228 p. , This color atlas is designed as a reference for the morphologic aspects of veterinary hematology of common domestic animals. It covers a variety of species, including dogs, cats, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and llamas. The atlas is divided into two sections, the first covers blood, while the second discusses bone marrow. Techniques for the collection and preparation of blood and bone marrow spears and bone marrow core biopsies are covered in addition to the morphology of the tissues collected. Often, multiple examples of a cell type or abnormal condition are shown to illustrate the variance in morphology. 26 cm. Blood cells a practical guide par Bain,, Barbara J. Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-Blackwell 2006 . 488 p. , Blood Cells has been written with both the practising haematologist and the trainee in mind. It aims to provide a guide for use in the diagnostic haematology laboratory, covering methods of collection of blood specimens, blood film preparation and staining, the principles of manual and automated blood counts and the assessment of the morphological features of blood cells. The practising haematologist should find this book sufficiently comprehensive to be a reference source while, at the same time, the trainee haematologist and biomedical scientist should find it a straightforward and practical bench manual. Enables both the haematologist and laboratory scientist to identify blood cell features, from the most common to the more obscure Provides essential information on methods of collection, blood film preparation and staining, together with the principles of manual and automated blood counts Completely revised and updated, incorporating much newly published information: now includes advice on further tests when a specific diagnosis is suspected Four hundred high quality photographs to aid with blood cell identification Highlights the purpose and clinical relevance of haematology laboratory tests throughout. 25 cm. Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.   Publication : [S.l.] Humana Press 2007 . 234 p. , This volume is a compendium of cutting-edge molecular methods for the successful transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells. The availability of genetic profiles for committed and uncommitted stem cells combined with the determination of molecular steps involved in hematopoietic stem cell activation and self-renewal hold tremendous promise for future success in the clinic. Currently, stem cells can be quantified and sorted successfully, but transduction, labeling, and in vivo tracking of stem cells are difficult techniques with traditionally low efficiency levels. The contributors to this volume describe promising tools for stem cell transplant research models, such as in vivo bioluminescence imaging. Topics included in this volume are molecular profiling of hematopoietic stell cells, methods for imaging cell fates in hematopoiesis, PCR-SSP typing of HLA Class I and Class II alleles, sequence-based HLA typing, and typing minor HLA antigens. Also discussed in this volume are the roles of natural killer cells and killer inhibitor receptor polymorphisms, polymorphisms within epithelial receptors, molecular methods used for the detection of autologous graft contamination in lymphoid disorders, and the application of proteomics to posttransplantation follow-up. With the recent trend moving from gene expression to the protein expression profiles, the application of proteomics to the posttransplant follow-up of patients is becoming routine. As a result, this volume will become an invaluable source for biochemists, molecular biologists, and clinicians. 24 cm. Cardiovascular regeneration and stem cell therapy par Leri, Annarosa Publication : [S.l.] Wiley-Blackwell 2007 . 248 p. , This book is the definitive reference on two of the most exciting areas of cardiovascular research – myocardial regeneration and stem cell therapy – for the treatment of disease. Edited by pioneers in the area, with contributions from every major investigator worldwide, it covers: The biology of stem cells The actions of stem cells from the bone marrow, the heart, and embryos on the normal restorative and repair functions of the heart and blood vessels How stem cells could contribute to myocardial recovery in the face of injury and aging How adjuvant therapy with growth factors might enhance stem cell activity in regeneration and repair Clinical applications and clinical experiences This fully referenced publication presents the current state of knowledge in both basic science and clinical practice, and is an essential reference for scientists, students, and clinicians. 26 cm. Cord blood : establishing a national hematopoietic stem cell bank program par Program, Committee on Establishing a National Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank. Publication : [S.l.] National Academies Press 2005 . 334 p. , With the potential for self-renewal and differentiation, the possibilities for stem cells are enormous. One specific type of stem cell, the hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), which is derived from umbilical cord blood (as well as adult bone marrow and mobilized peripheral blood), holds particular promise. To make the most of these HPCs, the Institute of Medicine was asked to consider the optimal structure for a national cord blood program and to address pertinent issues related to maximizing the potential of stem cell technology. "Cord Blood: Establishing a National Hematopoietic Stem Cell Bank Program" examines: the role of cord blood in stem cell transplantation; the current status of blood banks already in existence; the optimal structure for the cord blood program; the current use and utility of cord blood for stem cell transplants; the best way to advance the use of cord blood units and make them available for research; and expert advice from leaders in the fields of economics, public health, medicine, and biostatistics combine to make this very timely and topical book useful to a number of stakeholders. 24 cm.
