		The evolution of Principia mathematica : Bertrand Russell's manuscripts and notes for the second edition par Linsky, Bernard. Publication : Cambridge \| New York Cambridge University Press 2011 . vii, 407 pages , "Originally published in 1910, Principia Mathematica led to the development of mathematical logic and computers and thus to information sciences. It became a model for modern analytic philosophy and remains an important work. In the late 1960s the Bertrand Russell Archives at McMaster University in Canada obtained Russell's papers, letters and library. These archives contained the manuscripts for the new Introduction and three Appendices that Russell added to the second edition in 1925. Also included was another manuscript, 'The Hierarchy of Propositions and Functions', which was divided up and re-used to create the final changes for the second edition. These documents provide fascinating insight, including Russell's attempts to work out the theorems in the flawed Appendix B, 'On Induction'. An extensive introduction describes the stages of the manuscript material on the way to print and analyzes the proposed changes in the context of the development of symbolic logic after 1910"-- 26 cm. 		Algebraic geometry V : fano varieties. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2001 . 247 p. ; , The aim of this survey, written by V.A. Iskovskikh and Yu.G. Prokhorov, is to provide an exposition of the structure theory of Fano varieties, i.e. algebraic vareties with an ample anticanonical divisor. Such varieties naturally appear in the birational classification of varieties of negative Kodaira dimension, and they are very close to rational ones. This EMS volume covers different approaches to the classification of Fano varieties such as the classical Fano-Iskovskikh "double projection" method and its modifications, the vector bundles method due to S. Mukai, and the method of extremal rays. The authors discuss uniruledness and rational connectedness as well as recent progress in rationality problems of Fano varieties. The appendix contains tables of some classes of Fano varieties. This book will be very useful as a reference and research guide for researchers and graduate students in algebraic geometry. 25 cm. 		Contaminants in the subsurface : source zone assessment and remediation / par Subsurface,, Committee on Source Removal of Contaminants in the. The last decade has seen growing interest in using aggressive source remediation technologies to remove contaminants from the subsurface, but there is limited understanding of: the effectiveness of these technologies; and the overall effect of mass removal on groundwater quality. This report reviews the suite of technologies available for source remediation and their ability to reach a variety of cleanup goals, from meeting regulatory standards for groundwater to reducing costs. The report proposes elements of a protocol for accomplishing source remediation that should enable project managers to decide whether and how to pursue source remediation at their sites. 23 cm. 		The Arabic version of euclid's optics : edited and translated with historical introduction and commentary / par Kheirandish,, Elaheh. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 1999 . 320 p. ; , Like all classical Greek texts on science, Euclid's works on optics initially came to the West mainly through medieval Arabic texts and commentaries. While several Greek versions of the Optika were discovered and translated as early as the sixteenth century, sorting out what may have been Euclid's original has not been easy. This book presents a critical translation of an Arabic texts and of Arabic commentaries on the text, and places the whole in a historical context. The Optics is particularly interesting in that Euclid's text was considerably transformed in the process of translation into Arabic "equivalents"; in addition, several of the Arabic editions of Euclid's text (c. 300 BC) contained liberal admixtures of a much later book by Ptolemy (c. 200 AD) of the same title. What was referred to as "Euclid's Optics," the "Kitab Uqlidis fi Ikhtilaf al-manazir," thus became as much an exposition of an Arabic version of a visual theory as a translation of Euclid's ideas on the subject. In preparing this edition, Dr. Kheirandish has thus not only sorted out the various manuscript versions of Al-Manazir, but also related and unrelated texts that were often confused with it. 25 cm.
