˜The œmaillard reaction : chemistry, biology and implications / par Nursten, H.E. Publication : [S.l.] : Royal Society of Chemistry, 2005 . 214 p. ; , Research in the field of the Maillard reaction has developed rapidly in recent years, not only as a result of the application of improved analytical techniques but also the realisation that that the Maillard reaction plays an important role in some human diseases and in the ageing process. The Maillard Reaction : Chemistry, Biochemistry and Implications provides a comprehensive treatise on the Maillard reaction. This single-author volume covers all aspects of the Maillard reaction in a uniform, co-ordinated, and up-to-date manner. The book encompasses: the chemistry of non-enzymic browning; recent advances; colour formation in non-enzymic browning; flavour and off-flavour formation in non-enzymic browning; toxicological aspects; nutritional aspects; other physiological aspects; other consequences of technological significance; implications for other fields; non-enzymic browning due mainly to ascorbic acid; caramelisation; inhibition of non-enzymic browning in foods; and inhibition of the Maillard reaction in vivo. 24 cm. Geriatrics and gerontology of the dog and cat / par D. Hoskins , Johnny DVM Publication : [S.l.] : Saunders, 2003 . 432 p. ; , This groundbreaking reference is the first and only comprehensive book to address the needs of older dogs and cats, providing the veterinary clinician, veterinary student, and animal health technician with health-related information that is clinically relevant and quickly retrievable in a simple format. It offers a complete and practical review of the causes, incidence, clinical features, diagnosis, and management of both common and uncommon problems associated with the aging process and acquired illness. Each chapter offers tips on the physical examination of that body system and provides quick-reference tables for guidance on diagnosis and treatment. Because of the increased health problems in aging dogs and cats and the ardent attachment of the pet owner, veterinarians need to know more about aging so they may delay or minimize the progressive deterioration of aging and improve the quality of life for geriatric dogs and cats. 26 cm. Neuroendocrine cells and peptidergic innervation in human and rat prostrate / par Santamaría,, Luis. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2007 . 80 p. ; , The prostate hosts an important amount of neuroendocrine cells which origin and functional role need to be better addressed. These cells synthesize and deliver a number of neurosecretory substances (serotonin, neuropeptides) having regulative activities over growth, cell differentiation, and secretion and might have a remarkable influence in the development of prostatic proliferative disorders such as hyperplasia or cancer. Moreover, the autonomous nervous system seems to be relevant in the maintenance of structural and functional integrity of the prostate, a wide variety of peptidergic fibres has been described in the prostate gland; such as neuropeptide Y (NPY), vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), substance P (SP), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) nerves, etc. There is evidence about morphologic and functional relationships between neuroendocrine cells and prostate nerve fibres, resulting in a neuro-hormonal system that might modulate the androgenic action on the prostate. Using immunohistochemistry and stereologic quantification, the authors of the present study deal with the demonstration that the neuroendocrine cells population from transition zone of the human prostate was greater than in both central and peripheral regions, and this can be put in relation to the genesis of BPH. Furthermore, they observed that the neuroendocrine cells and the peptidergic innervation of rat prostate might be influenced by aging and androgenic status. Other factors, as pharmacological castration, or prolactin action, might be also modulate the neuroendocrine-peptidergic system. 23 cm. Orthogonal polynomials of several variables / par Dunkl, Charles F. Publication : [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2001 . 408 p. ; , This is the first modern book on orthogonal polynomials of several variables, which are valuable tools used in multivariate analysis, including approximations and numerical integration. The book presents the theory in elegant form and with modern concepts and notation. It introduces the general theory and emphasizes the classical types of orthogonal polynomials whose weight functions are supported on standard domains such as the cube, the simplex, the sphere and the ball. It also focuses on those of Gaussian type, for which fairly explicit formulae exist. The authors' approach blends classical analysis and symmetry-group-theoretic methods. The book will be welcomed by research mathematicians and applied scientists, including applied mathematicians, physicists, chemists and engineers. 24 cm. Physical chemistry of polymer rheology / par Furukawa, Junji. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2003 . 280 p. ; , Rheology is the science and technology that deals with the deformation of polymeric or plastic materials. In this monograph the field of polymer rheology is explained with emphasis on the chemical theory. The book provides basic information on rheology for nonspecialists and gives clear explanations of the various phenomena. The author has developed a new theory of thermodynamics and kinetics using a model of multi-size pseudo crosslinks that provides a comprehensive principle to show how links in chain molecules affect the melting temperatures and determine polymer properties such as viscoelasticity, melt viscosity and elastic and plastic behaviour of bulk polymers. The theory can be extended to include the strength of rubber and plastics, active fillers and adhesion, friction and abrasion. 24 cm. Statistics of random processes i / par Liptser,, Robert S. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2000 . 400 p. ; , "Written by two renowned experts in the field, the books under review contain a thorough and insightful treatment of the fundamental underpinnings of various aspects of stochastic processes as well as a wide range of applications. Providing clear exposition, deep mathematical results, and superb technical presentation, they are masterpieces of the subject of stochastic analysis and nonlinear filtering" -George Yin, SIAM Review The subject of these two volumes is non-linear filtering (prediction and smoothing) theory and its application to the problem of optimal estimation, control with incomplete data, information theory, and sequential testing of hypothesis. In the second edition, the authors have made numerous corrections, updating every chapter, adding two new subsections devoted to the Kalman filter under wrong initial conditions, as well as a new chapter devoted to asymptotically optimal filtering under diffusion approximation. Moreover, in each chapter a comment is added about the progress of recent years. 25 cm. Date : 2000 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (1),
