Physical-chemical treatment of water and wastewater / par Sincero, Arcadio P. Publication : [S.l.] : CRC Press, 2003 . 856 p. ; , The books currently available on this subject contain some elements of physical-chemical treatment of water and wastewater but fall short of giving comprehensive and authoritative coverage. They contain some equations that are not substantiated, offering empirical data based on assumptions that are therefore difficult to comprehend. This text brings together the information previously scattered in several books and adds the knowledge from the author's lectures on wastewater engineering.Physical-Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater is not only descriptive but is also analytical in nature. The work covers the physical unit operations and unit processes utilized in the treatment of water and wastewater. Its organization is designed to match the major processes and its approach is mathematical. The authors stress the description and derivation of processes and process parameters in mathematical terms, which can then be generalized into diverse empirical situations. Each chapter includes design equations, definitions of symbols, a glossary of terms, and worked examples. One author is an environmental engineer and a professor for over 12 years and the other has been in the practice of environmental engineering for more than 20 years. They offer a sound analytical mathematical foundation and description of processes. Physical-Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater fills a niche as the only dedicated textbook in the area of physical and chemical methods, providing an analytical approach applicable to a range of empirical situations. 25 cm. Re-engineering water storage in the everglades : risks and opportunities / par Ecosystem,, Committee on Restoration of the Greater Everglades. Publication : [S.l.] : National Academies Press, 2005 . 140 p. ; , The Water Science and Technology Board and the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology have released the seventh and final report of the Committee on Restoration of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem, which provides consensus advice to the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force on various scientific and technical topics. Human settlements and flood-control structures have significantly reduced the Everglades, which once encompassed over three million acres of slow-moving water enriched by a diverse biota. To remedy the degradation of the Everglades, a comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan was formulated in 1999 with the goal of restoring the original hydrologic conditions of its remaining natural ecosystem. A major feature of this plan is providing enough storage capacity to meet human needs while also providing the needs of the greater Everglades ecosystem. This report reviews and evaluates not only storage options included in the Restoration Plan but also other options not considered in the Plan. Along with providing hydrologic and ecological analyses of the size, location and functioning of water storage components, the report also discusses and makes recommendations on related critical factors, such as timing of land acquisition, intermediate states of restoration, and tradeoffs among competing goals and ecosystem objectives. 28 cm. Wastewater treatment systems / par Olsson. Publication : [S.l.] : Other, 1999 . 750 p. , This is a book for those operating and studying biological wastewater treatment plants. It introduces the state-of-the-art in process systems analysis (modelling and simulation, monitoring and diagnosis, process control and instrumentation) and in particular its application to wastewater treatment. While the emphasis is on biological nutrient removal, there is discussion of anaerobic treatment, and the principles apply to any treatment process. For the computer literate there is also a collection of MATLAB programs and functions that are mentioned throughout the book. They will run on both the professional and student editions of MATLAB Version 5. Date : 1999 Disponibilité : Exemplaires disponibles: La bibliothèque des sciences de l'ingénieur (1),

Water resources systems analysis / par Karamouz, Mohammad. Publication : [S.l.] : CRC Press, 2003 . 608 p. ; , Experience has shown that structural solutions for water diversion, conservation, and transfer are not always the most efficient and economically sound alternatives. New, non-structural means of solving problems must be used to guarantee safe and efficient allocation of water to domestic, agricultural, and industrial customers.Focusing on conflict resolution, Water Resources Systems Analysis discusses systematic approaches for the mathematical modeling of various water resources issues, helping decision-makers allocate water effectively and efficiently. Readers will gain an understanding of simulation, optimization, multi-criterion-decision-making, as well as engineering economics and time series analysis, all necessary for successful water resources systems analysis. The book explores recent developments in surface and groundwater systems optimization and modeling, and relates these to real field applications and case studies.Supported by essential mathematical tools, this book gives current and future hydrologists, water resources managers, and civil engineers a logical reference for prioritizing and addressing critical issues such as flood control, power generation, and water quality management. 25 cm. Water technology, second edition : an introduction for environmental scientists and engineers / par Gray,, N. F. Publication : [S.l.] : Butterworth-Heinemann, 2005 . 600 p. ; , Water and wastewater engineering is the worlds biggest industry with more professionals working in it than in any other single industry sector. This accessible student textbook introduces the reader to the key concepts of water technology by explaining the fundamentals of hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystems, water treatment and supply and wastewater treatment. In 2000 the Water Framework Directive came into force - this is the most substantial piece of EC water legislation to date. It requires all inland and coastal waters to reach "good status" by 2015. Professor Gray includes the new framework throughout this new edition taking into account the implications of compliance and practice, as well as discussing the topical issue of sustainable principles in water management. Covers water quality and regulation Deals with water quality assessment, management and treatment Includes a new chapter on sustainability within water technology. 25 cm.
