Anaesthesia for oral and maxillofacial surgery par Shaw, Ian. Publication : [S.l.] Oxford University Press, USA 2010 . 432 p. , Part of the Oxford Textbooks in Anaesthesia series, Anaesthesia for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an authoritative, evidence based textbook on oral, dental, and maxillofacial surgery. Oral, dental, and maxillofacial surgery represents one of the most common indications for anaesthesia worldwide. The anaesthetist can be called upon to provide anaesthesia for patients presenting with impacted or carious teeth, infections of the mucosa and adjacent structures, facial injuries, head and neck cancers, salivary gland disease, facial disproportion, temporomandibular joint disorders, cysts, and tumours of the jaws. Anaesthetists may also be involved in managing patients experiencing chronic and intractable facial pain. An understanding of this subject matter is fundamental to the safe practice of anaesthesia. This book provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of all aspects of anaesthesia for oral and maxillofacial surgery. Designed for both consultants and trainees with an interest in this area, chapters cover the anatomy, pre-assessment, difficult airway, regional anaesthesia, imaging, and all clinical aspects for complex area. 25 cm. Anaesthesia for patients with endocrine disease par James, MFM. Publication : [S.l.] Oxford University Press, USA 2010 . 250 p. , Apart from diabetes mellitus, endocrine diseases requiring surgical treatment are relatively uncommon. However, when they do occur, they frequently present major clinical anaesthestic problems that require extensive knowledge of the pathophysiology of the condition, and considerable anaesthetic expertise. This book provides the anaesthetist with a comprehensive examination of each of the endocrine conditions, covering underlying pathophysiological problems, and guidance on optimal anaesthetic care. It will be of use to trainee and consultant anaesthetists working in both specialist endocrine wards and general surgery wards where a patient with endocrine disease might present. 25 cm. Cardiac anaesthesia par Barnard, Matthew. Publication : [S.l.] Oxford University Press, USA 2010 . 590 p. , The Oxford Specialist Handbook series provides readers with clear, concise information on all that is needed to successfully train in the medical sub-specialties. Each book is designed to give an overview of clearly defined procedures, skills, guidelines, and technologies, and provide practical tips and case studies to supplement hands-on experience. This book provides accessible, clear guidelines on cardiac anaesthesia. It is divided into three distinct sections. The first section covers the scientific basis of cardiac anaesthesia: anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. The second section is organized by organ system. It includes all of the implications of cardiac surgery for the major organ systems while emphasizing post-operative sequelae. The aim is to avoid repetition by incorporating within each organ topic the information which is common to different groups of patients or types of surgery. Diverse topics are linked together in a rational and logical way by linking them to the underlying organ system. The third section covers clinical practice and is organized by the type of surgery or surgical condition. This facilitates rapid and easy access to clinical management plans for any particular type of patient. 19 cm. Civil capacities in clinical neuropsychology Research findings and practical applications   Publication : Oxford | New York Oxford University Press 2012 . xvi, 336 pages , "Clinical neuropsychologists are increasingly involved in the evaluation of civil capacities and are in demand by other professionals, particularly attorneys and judges, to assist their decision-making about these sometimes complex issues. While there has been some neuropsychological research in this area, this has not been assembled into a single volume nor have practice recommendations been provided. This volume fills these gaps. The first part of this volume reviews and synthesizes the research literature on neuropsychological aspects of civil capacities. The specific capacities addressed include driving, financial and healthcare decision-making, testamentary (i.e., will-making) capacity, and personal care and independence. Each chapter addresses relevant background issues, conceptual/theoretical advances, and empirical findings. The chapters also include an illustrative case study that demonstrates how the authors (each expert in the various areas) evaluated and conceptualized the case. Each chapter is written from an evidence-based perspective and, where appropriate, uses research to inform practice recommendations. The second part of this volume provides recommendations to practitioners on how to conduct civil capacity evaluations that utilize neuropsychological assessment. There are chapters on an evaluative framework for the assessment, capacity test selection and psychometric issues, working with other data sources besides testing (e.g., collateral interviews), best practices in report-writing and testifying, as well as common ethical issues in such cases. Throughout, these chapters provide practical "how to" advice to improve neuropsychological practice and consulting in civil capacity cases. In addition to these chapters, there is a chapter written by legal consumers of psychological reports. This chapter offers a wealth of useful information and recommendations that, if followed, will further serve to advance psychological report-writing and consultation in civil capacity evaluations"-- 24 cm. Cognitive impairment and dementia in parkinson's disease par Emre,, Murat. Publication : [S.l.] Oxford University Press, USA 2010 . 288 p. , Parkinson's disease has long been perceived as a pure motor disorder, partly due to its initial description by James Parkinson, who suggested that "senses and intellect remain intact", and partly due to the fact that patients with PD did not survive long, before effective treatment became available. As the survival time of patients with Parkinson's disease has substantially increased due to modern treatment, it has become apparent that cognitive deficits and dementia are also frequent features, especially in elderly patients. With the progression of the disease and age, dementia develops in a substantial number of patients and constitutes a major therapeutic challenge. Dementia has thus increasingly been the focus of research and practice in recent years and a large body of knowledge has been accumulated. Despite these developments there has been no single volume dedicated to this topic. This book provides an extensive overview of the current status of knowledge pertaining to cognitive impairment and dementia associated with Parkinson's disease, intended as a reference book for general neurologists, neurology residents and also those with a special interest in movement disorders. In this edited volume experts in the field describe in detail all aspects of cognitive impairment and dementia in Parkinson's disease, including epidemiology, spectrum of clinical features, pathology, neurochemistry and genetics, findings in auxiliary investigations, relation to other neurodegenerative disorders, diagnostic process and management, and rounded up by discussion of future research directions and expectations. The text is complemented and enriched with tables, figures and heavily referenced to encompass all relevant literature. 25 cm.
