Polymer macro- and micro-gel beads : fundamentals and applications par Nussinovitch,, Amos. Publication : [S.l.] Springer 2010 . 400 p. , The use of hydrocolloid (water-soluble polymer) beads is on the rise in many fields. A book that covers both past and new applications for hydrocolloid beads, their properties, and how to deliberately change them, is crucial. Currently there are only chapters in a handful of books covering these topics; there are no books fully devoted to them. Water-Soluble Polymer Beads: Fundamentals and Applications fills this void. This book describes all methods of bead production and techniques to change and to estimate their physical and chemical properties. A full description of past and recent developments and applications of beads in the fields of agriculture, biotechnology, environmental studies, medicine and food are presented. 24 cm. Polymer membranes in biotechnology : preparation, functionalization and application par Ramakrishna, Seeram. Publication : [S.l.] Imperial College Press 2011 . 300 p. , This book provides a concise and comprehensive introduction of polymer membranes' preparation, functionalization and applications in biotechniques including affinity membrane chromatography, membrane-based biosensor and membrane-based bioreactor. Following an introduction to the general concept of membrane separation in Chapter 1, preparation of polymeric membranes is discussed in Chapter 2. The book then describes in Chapter 3 membrane surface activation, which is a key step in ligand immobilizations. Chapter 4 focuses on ligand immobilization techniques and the organic chemistries behind them. Chapter 5 introduces the application of affinity membrane chromatography. Finally, in Chapter 6, membranes used in biosensors and gas sensors, enzymatic membranes used as biosensor, and membrane biosensor for waste water treatment will be discussed. A novel filter medium, i.e. nonwoven nanofiber membrane, and its preparation method, i.e. electrospinning technique, are also introduced in this book. 24 cm. Solid state nmr spectroscopy for biopolymers : principles and applications / par Saitʋ,, Hazime. Publication : [S.l.] : Springer, 2006 . 464 p. ; , When considering the biological significance and industrial and medical applications of biopolymers, it is crucial to know details of their secondary structure, dynamics and assembly. The biopolymers include globular, membrane and fibrous proteins, polypeptides, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and lipids. Solid state NMR spectroscopy has proved to be the most suitable and unrivaled means for investigations of biopolymers. The major advantage of solid state NMR spectroscopy is that the resulting line widths can be manipulated experimentally and are not influenced by motional fluctuation of proteins under consideration as a whole. Solid State NMR Spectroscopy for Biopolymers: Principles and Applications provides a comprehensive account on how the conformation and dynamics of such biopolymers can be revealed by solid state NMR spectroscopy. Special efforts have been made towards the historical and chronological consequences of a variety of applications and the dynamic aspects of the biopolymer system. In particular, the authors emphasise how important it is to record the most simple DD-MAS (one pulse excitation with high power decoupling) as a mean of locating very flexible portions of membrane proteins and membrane associated peptides. The authors also demonstrate that dynamic features of membrane proteins with a timescale of fast (10 8 Hz) and intermediate (10 4 -10 5 Hz) fluctuation motions can be revealed easily by specific suppression of peaks. 25 cm.
