Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.   Publication : [S.l.] Humana Press 2007 . 234 p. , This volume is a compendium of cutting-edge molecular methods for the successful transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells. The availability of genetic profiles for committed and uncommitted stem cells combined with the determination of molecular steps involved in hematopoietic stem cell activation and self-renewal hold tremendous promise for future success in the clinic. Currently, stem cells can be quantified and sorted successfully, but transduction, labeling, and in vivo tracking of stem cells are difficult techniques with traditionally low efficiency levels. The contributors to this volume describe promising tools for stem cell transplant research models, such as in vivo bioluminescence imaging. Topics included in this volume are molecular profiling of hematopoietic stell cells, methods for imaging cell fates in hematopoiesis, PCR-SSP typing of HLA Class I and Class II alleles, sequence-based HLA typing, and typing minor HLA antigens. Also discussed in this volume are the roles of natural killer cells and killer inhibitor receptor polymorphisms, polymorphisms within epithelial receptors, molecular methods used for the detection of autologous graft contamination in lymphoid disorders, and the application of proteomics to posttransplantation follow-up. With the recent trend moving from gene expression to the protein expression profiles, the application of proteomics to the posttransplant follow-up of patients is becoming routine. As a result, this volume will become an invaluable source for biochemists, molecular biologists, and clinicians. 24 cm. Evidence-based surgery, an issue of surgical clinics / par Meakins Jonathan L. , .MD Publication : [S.l.] : Saunders, 2006 . 240 p. ; , Shared decision making is integral to future surgical care. It is not possible without the organization and applications of knowledge. Evidence-based surgical practice is inevitable as practice and outcomes become patient centered. This issue will offer articles on developing skills for evidence-based surgery, the nature of surgical evidence, producing the evidence, and evidence-based decision making. 23 cm. Vitreous microsurgery, fourth edition / par Charles, Steve. Publication : [S.l.] : Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2006 . 272 p. ; , Written by a pioneering leader in the development of vitreoretinal surgical techniques and instruments, this volume is a comprehensive how-to guide to all vitreoretinal procedures. This thoroughly updated Fourth Edition describes many new techniques and refinements of established procedures. More than 160 three-dimensional full-color illustrations--many by the Charles Retina Institute's resident medical artist, Byron Wood--enable surgeons to clearly visualize the techniques. This edition features a brand-new chapter on small diameter (25-gauge) sutureless transconjunctival vitrectomy, and presents state-of-the-art information on anti-VEGF therapy for age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and venous occlusive disease. Other highlights include new information on intravitreal Kenalog and new strategies for managing retinopathy of prematurity. "Doody's Core Titles 2009." 28 cm.
