˜The œelements of polymer science and engineering : an introductory text and reference for engineers and chemists / par Rudin,, Alfred. Publication : . 1 online resource (xvii, 509 pages) : , Tremendous developments in the field of polymer science, its growing importance, and an increase in the number of polymer science courses in both physics and chemistry departments have led to the revision of the First Edition. This new edition addresses subjects as spectroscopy (NMR), dynamic light scattering, and other modern techniques unknown before the publication of the First Edition. The Second Edition focuses on both theory (physics and chemistry) and engineering applications which make it useful for chemistry, physics, and chemical engineering departments. Key Features * Focuses on applications of polymer chemistry, engineering and technology * Explains terminology, applications and versatility of synthetic polymers * Connects polymerization chemistry with engineering applications * Leads reader from basic concepts to technological applications * Highlights the vastly valuable resource of polymer technology * Uses quanitative examples and problems to fully develop concepts * Contains practical lead-ins to emulsion polymerization, viscoelasticity and polymer rheology. Absorbable and biodegradable polymers par Shalaby, Shalaby W. Publication : [S.l.] CRC Press 2004 . 289 p. , Interest in biodegradable and absorbable polymers is growing rapidly in large part because of their biomedical implant and drug delivery applications. This text illustrates creative approaches to custom designing unique, fiber-forming materials for equally unique applications. It includes an example of the development and application of a new absorbable system, a condensed encyclopedia on novel PEG-based copolyesters, and the first comprehensive discussion of a novel class of absorbable tissue adhesives. The book also provides up-to-date information on important tissue engineering technologies and approaches to utilizing these technologies for long awaited practical applications. 25 cm. Advances in polymer nanocomposite technology   Publication : [S.l.] Nova Science Pub Inc 2010 . 445 p. , Polymer nanocomposites have revolutionised the research effort in the field of composites as they lead to the achievement of synergistic effects from the organic and inorganic components of the system and have led to the expansion of the spectrum of application of the commodity polymers to more advanced high end applications. Although a number of successful systems could be achieved, the inorganic filler still could not be optimally dispersed on nanometer scale in non polar polymers. Also, the thermal degradation of the surface modification of the inorganic component disturbs the organic inorganic phase compatibility and hence the resulting composite properties. In recent years, many new techniques have been employed to overcome these problems which include more advanced modification protocols of the inorganic filler, development of more thermally stable surface modification and altogether new synthesis technologies for polyolefin nanocomposites. There has also been a constant need to compare the composite properties with the property models and hence to be able to predict the properties of the similar systems in advance. However, until now, the conventional models developed for conventional micro composites were used, which in no way maps the nanocomposite systems. The recently developed statistical as well as finite element methods focusing the real nanocomposite morphologies have been more helpful for this purpose. Though a tremendous research focus lies on these polymer systems, there is also a need to give some attention to more environmentally friendly nanocomposite systems and to develop methods to achieve proper recycling. 26 cm. Arburg practical guide to injection moulding / par Goodship,, V. Publication : [S.l.] : Smithers Rapra Press, 2004 . 276 p. ; , This Practical Guide to Injection Moulding is based on course material used by ARBURG in training operators of injection moulding machines. It comes from many years of experience in this field and has been edited by an expert injection moulder at Warwick University. It will be of use to experts looking to fill gaps in their knowledge base and to those new to the industry. The factors involved in injection moulding, from material properties and selection to troubleshooting faults, are all examined in this book. It covers the equipment types in use and machine settings for different types of plastics. Material flow is critical in moulding and there are sections covering rheology and viscosity. High temperature can lead to poor quality mouldings due to material degradation and this is discussed. There are an exceptional number of figures in this text, with many photographs of machinery and mouldings to illustrate key points. There are also numerous tables listing key properties and processing parameters. Flow charts are included in the chapter on troubleshooting to indicate what can be changed to resolve common problems. Injection moulding in the Western World is becoming increasingly competitive as the manufacturing base for many plastics materials has moved to the East. Thus Western manufacturers have moved into more technically difficult products and mouldings to provide more added value and maintain market share. Technology is becoming more critical, together with innovation and quality control. There is a chapter on advanced processing in injection moulding covering multi-material and assisted moulding technologies. This Guide will assist progress in developing good technical skills and appropriate processing techniques for the range of plastics and products in the marketplace. 30 cm.
