Degradable polymers and materials : principles and practice / par Khemani, Kishan. Publication : [S.l.] : An American Chemical Society Publication, 2006 . 456 p. ; , This book is an excellent guide to biobased and biodegradable polymeric materials. It summarizes current knowledge on polymer degradation mechanisms and provides insight into recent, state of the art syntheses of (bio)degradable polymers. The book captures the shift that is currently observed in polymer industries, which takes the industry from a strict petroleum-based business to an industry that starts to incorporate biobased raw materials and seeks actively to manufacture materials that are environmentally benign. The book describes various aspects of current polymer research with special emphasis on natural polymers, syntheses and modifications of polyesters and characterization technologies that allow to elucidate degradation mechanisms. The understanding of polymer degradation is not limited anymore to hydrolytic processes, this book captures new approaches to the degradation of plastic materials ranging from photodegradation to the regulation of genes of polymer-degrading microorganisms. A profound part of the book is dedicated to poly(lactic acid) a polymer that is now produced in large scale from renewable resources, the modification, copolymerization, application and engineering of this material is discussed in detail and a comprehensive review is provided. 24 cm. Engineering turbulence modelling and experiments 6 : ercoftac international symposium on engineering turbulence and measurements - etmm6.   Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2005 . 1012 p. ; , Proceedings of the world renowned ERCOFTAC (International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements). The proceedings include papers dealing with the following areas of turbulence: Âɛ Eddy-viscosity and second-order RANS models Âɛ Direct and large-eddy simulations and deductions for conventional modelling Âɛ Measurement and visualization techniques, experimental studies Âɛ Turbulence control Âɛ Transition and effects of curvature, rotation and buoyancy on turbulence Âɛ Aero-acoustics Âɛ Heat and mass transfer and chemically reacting flows Âɛ Compressible flows, shock phenomena Âɛ Two-phase flows Âɛ Applications in aerospace engineering, turbomachinery and reciprocating engines, industrial aerodynamics and wind engineering, and selected chemical engineering problems Turbulence remains one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. These problems are solved more and more by CFD analysis, the reliability of which depends strongly on the performance of the turbulence models employed. Successful simulation of turbulence requires the understanding of the complex physical phenomena involved and suitable models for describing the turbulent momentum, heat and mass transfer. For the understanding of turbulence phenomena, experiments are indispensable, but they are equally important for providing data for the development and testing of turbulence models and hence for CFD software validation. As in other fields of Science, in the rapidly developing discipline of turbulence, swift progress can be achieved only by keeping up to date with recent advances all over the world and by exchanging ideas with colleagues active in related fields. 25 cm. European symposium on computer aided process engineering - 15 : 38th european symposium of the working party on computer aided process engineering.   Publication : [S.l.] : Elsevier Science, 2005 . 1718 p. ; , This proceedings book contains papers presented at the 15th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE-15), held in Barcelona, Spain, from May 29-June 1, 2004. These proceedings consist of two volumes, which include the contributed papers organised in five classes paralleling the five themes of the Symposium. A complementary CD-ROM contains all the papers presented at the symposium. The ESCAPE (European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering) series brings the latest innovations and achievements by leading professionals. The series acts as a forum for engineers, scientists, researchers, managers, and students from academia and industry to present and discuss progress being made in research and application of CAPE. ESCAPE-15 has focused on recent developments of New Systems Methodologies and Computer Aided Applications in Process Engineering in general and in the following areas of chemical engineering in particular: Computing methods for CAPE Modelling and simulation Process and product design Process operation and control Integrated approaches in CAPE * Provides this year's comprehensive overview of the current state of affairs in the CAPE community * Includes a complementary CD-ROM containing all the papers presented at the symposium * Contains reports from the frontiers of science by the field's most respected scientists. 25 cm. Principles of magnetic resonance imaging : a signal processing perspective / par Liang, Zhi-Pei. Publication : [S.l.] : Wiley-IEEE Press, 1999 . 416 p. ; , "In 1971 Dr. Paul C. Lauterbur pioneered spatial information encoding principles that made image formation possible by using magnetic resonance signals. Now Lauterbur, ""father of the MRI,"" and Dr. Zhi-Pei Liang have co-authored the first engineering textbook on magnetic resonance imaging. This long-awaited, definitive text will help undergraduate and graduate students of biomedical engineering, biomedical imaging scientists, radiologists, and electrical engineers gain an in-depth understanding of MRI principles. The authors use a signal processing approach to describe the fundamentals of magnetic resonance imaging. You will find a clear and rigorous discussion of these carefully selected essential topics: Mathematical fundamentals Signal generation and detection principles Signal characteristics Signal localization principles Image reconstruction techniques Image contrast mechanisms Image resolution, noise, and artifacts Fast-scan imaging Constrained reconstruction. Complete with a comprehensive set of examples and homework problems, PRINCIPLES OF MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING is the must-read book to improve your knowledge of this revolutionary technique.
